He visited the Holocaust museum, it didn't go well.

The photo, taken in 1935, depicts a woman in a dark dress shuffling down a street in Norden, Germany. A large sign hangs from her neck: I am a German girl and allowed myself to be defiled by a Jew. She is surrounded by Nazi stormtroopers.
D.C. Council member Trayon White Sr. (D-Ward 8) studied the image. Are they protecting her?
Lynn Williams, an expert on educational programs at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and Whites tour guide for the day, stared at the photo.
No, she said. Theyre marching her through.
Marching through is protecting, White said.
end of quote but the article is must read
The old notion of holes and digging, well apparently he didn't ever learn about that.

(65,403 posts)OMG, this is just as bad!
Seven of Whites staff members stayed with the guide, who soon was showing them an exhibit on the Warsaw Ghetto. As she explained the walling in of Polish Jews, one aide asked whether it was similar to a gated community.

(90,714 posts)It is the central evil wound of the 20th Century, radiating outward in all directions and echoing down the years.
What are they teaching about the US Civil Rights movement and which "white people" were involved as early allies? Schwerner, Cheney, and Goodman? Two of those young men were Jews.
I find this man's ignorance beyond appalling -- and his staff, too.

(16,927 posts)on "the test" it will be taught. That is all they have time for! And don't forget, as each year passes there's 1 more year of "history" to be taught - and that needs to be done in the same 12 years of schooling. My son graduated in 2001 and they never got into WW2.
So, what does he know about:
Marshall Plan
atomic bomb
civil rights movement
Martin Luther King
JFK
Viet Nam war
Peace movement
Richard Nixon
Watergate (why does every "scandal" have a "gate" after it?)
etc., etc., etc.

(12,858 posts)IIRC we didn't even make it to WWI.
Each year grades 1-12 we started with Mayflower and pilgrims. Each year little bit more info about various periods covered.
Son HS grad 1986. Don't remember re WWII history but was shocked that there was v little in his texts about labor history or about all the laws protecting the public passed at the beginning of the 20th century.

(57,104 posts)I remember my first exposure to the Holocaust. I was overwhelmed by it. I couldn't imagine it if I hadn't seen the evidence. I know what a shock was for me to have my carefully crafted world view powdered. I had thought of World War II as a plot device for movies and TV. This guy had some serious shocks in his half hour of reality.
If he'd stayed the entire 90 minutes I'd be less sure of an attitude adjustment.
He'll be back and he'll make a press conference about it.

(57,104 posts)Look, people change and a lot of us believe things we'd be a little reticent about admitting here on DU. My dad believed that professional wrestling was real. You choose believe this guy is irredeemable and I believe he can be redeemed. I've seen it.
I think if he's smart enough to run for office in DC, he must have figured out when the press showed up regarding his slander that he was in trouble. I think he got a big surprise at the Museum. I think he got shook. That the truth is undeniable. He was shocked by the difference in what he knew before he showed up and what he knew within one half hour after he arrived.
You may of course disagree.
Peace.

(53,959 posts)I was willing to cut him break when the story first came to light, then more info came out, and I found myself giving him less of a break; now this....he is a fucking bigot. I will quote J.K. Rowling:
'Would response to any other form of racism or bigotry be to squirm, deflect or justify?'
Nope. Just anti-Semitism.
