It's just a matter of convincing them God wants it done, and that isn't hard, because it's what they want to believe anyway. Then they'll do it, enthusiastically, and afterward they'll go home and feel righteous, because they did it for God.

Not all of them, but plenty of them will.

Almost the entire world has engaged in religion-sanctioned slavery for tens of thousands of years. The cultures that have not are very remarkable, and very few. If there are any.

In any case, in advanced nations these people only get out of control when could-be-good people just sit around complaining about others instead of doing what being good people requires of them.

Long ago (1951), Eric Hoffer wrote "The True Believer: Thoughts On The Nature Of Mass Movements" It should be required reading for every generation's high school seniors to graduate. But of course, it isn't. The republican party has blindly and unconsciously taken on many of the trappings of Fascism. The evangelicals have always been there, since Constantine the Great invented the Church for crowd control, mind conformity, and empire rule. If they could burn us at the stake for heresy, they would.

And except for how our 'holy' men judge, all the time, and call for punishment.

And except for how dRump -- the guy we say don't judge -- judges all the time, and calls for punishment of everybody that isn't as holy as dRump, Dobson, Graham, Falwell, and their fucked up fascist flunky followers.

with him.

There have to be at least a few people asking themselves 'Why would God choose this man who, in no way, represents any of the values in the Bible".

If they start to doubt Trump, they start to doubt their church leaders.

And it's not hard for anyone who isn't a complete moran to doubt a man who doesn't even deny he cheated on his wife with a porn star at the same time he was also cheating on his other mistress and who is caught lying on average six times a day, sometimes within the same sentence.

increasingly some are backing away from evangelicalism itself, believing it's taken a wrong turn away from god into partisan politics. It's also increasingly embarrassing for some to be associated with the word evangelical. As one writer put it, the once mighty moral majority seems to be turning into an immoral minority.

Those still vote with hellish conviction, though. They wipe the floor with the kind of spoiled left-wing wobblies who insist we should have whatever they want right now and throw away their votes in rejection of Democrats who only offer what is possible.

It's really, really weird. I can't remember this cult-like fawning over any other POTUS we've had and many were bona fide Christians . . . unlike Don who only worships himself.
