Since the future is uncertain, his followers can hearken to a time that was predictable and pleasant. It would be a different time and circumstance for each individual. Maybe it was when their factory job was viable or when women stayed at home and knew their place. The past was better than what they can imagine is ahead of them. Trump has promised to give it all back. His promise to bring back antiquated jobs and take away the rights of women would bring a future that is more comfortable than facing the unknown and making unforeseen adjustments. "I Will Make America Into The Best Part Of Your Past!" This is what they hear in his slogan. "Fake News" gives them permission to keep this fantasy alive.
