Susan Sarandon says she 'alienated' women in Hollywood by not supporting Hillary Clinton

Can we form a line here of people who'd like to offer their sympathies?

Though she says she felt welcomed by the women championing the #MeToo movement, Sarandon explains, “I definitely alienated a lot of people by not supporting Hillary Clinton. That was an industry decision, and I was not, and a few other people were not, part of that group. …[It] was clear that some people that are in this industry took it very personally.”

She cites visiting Nicaragua in 1984 as a moment of controversy in her career, but that the 2016 election “drew the line in the sand very deeply.” “[It] wasn’t anything to do with [Clinton] personally, it all had to do with her policies and her actions and where she was getting her money from and things like that.”

She added, “I think when you’re becoming a person, you have to challenge everything that you’ve been told. You have to look at your religion, you have to look at your nationalism, you have to look at … how your sex life unfolds, everything. You have to go through that period. And that’s why no one should make a decision till they’re in their 30s about who they’re with [laughs], because you have to become that person. You have to own who that is, and you have to go through crises of faith before you can embrace who you are fully.”

Here's the thing, Susan. Third parties just don't win elections, but they DO disrupt them. If you care about intelligence, experience, children's healthcare, mental stability, and a thousand other things - like facts - HRC was the obvious choice then and now.

Go and "find yourself" on your own time. Election day is when you step outside yourself and make the most intelligent choice. You don't make a statement that someone with decades of working for the best for the country is no better than some self-styled big city rich playboy whose hobbies
were trading barroom stories with Howard Stern and stiffing people who did work on his properties.

they are trying to grapple with truth and if they truly believe what they are saying then they should absolutely be saying it. Sarandon for her part, has been on the right side of a lot of issues, which put her on a deck of cards that was promoted heavily in right wing media during the Iraq war. People who can't do nuance and find the good in people even while they grapple with the grievances they have with them, depress me. I get it...people are angry that she didn't advocate for Clinton and instead advocated for Stein, and that for a confluence of reasons, we now have Trump in the White House.

I certainly have reasons to disagree with Sarandon on her stance, but I don't begrudge her her stance. I don't 100 percent know its wrong. I don't really get the Stein thing because Stein seems problematic, but I do get voting principles over short-term strategy, although I personally think Sarandon's recent vote and GE advocacy was a bad call. But her principles still seem to be in the right place. What she cares about seems entirely legitimate to me. Its her approach to achieving it that we disagree with. That kind of seems like where the energy should be spent, but then people just want to lash out and blame, and to make those who offend them evil or selfish. That's the fucking worst. That is what scares me the most...that we can be just as reactionary, black-and-white, uncircumspect, as republicans really makes me fear for the future...since we kind of need to rely on democrats to be the adults in the room.

I don't know why that has to mean she is a horrible person, or a moron. She's been right before and wrong before. People you are so happy to claim are the brilliant wonks have been horribly wrong before when she was right. How many Iraqis are dead?

and I do dislike her. We heard the same baloney from her about Ralph Nader..."Gore was no different than Bush" Really? "Hillary Clinton is more dangerous than Trump." Really? I don't know where she gets her information from, but it seems she has no problem with being nasty and ill informed.

I think Democrats have been the "adults in the room" for far too long, too nice and accepting, it has caused us to lose way too many seats and to look weak.

I'm tired of being nice and accepting, I'm angry about the 2016 debacle and Trump. But I am also happy and proud, that the things are changing. That there are so many women who are running and winning from our party. That took courage. I'm proud of all the Women's marches and those who participated in them. Sarandon sure isn't one of them. She's just good for running her mouth and spouting her "alternative facts".

Life is too short to suffer fools gladly, and Sarandon is a fool. period.

Susie and her merry band of anarchist blew up the country in 2000...two wars and economic collapse...you go girl(sarcasm I really hate her)! They weakened Kerry early in the campaign and did little to prevent the re-election of Bush II...but boy they really f'd up in 16 by electing Trump. I have no respect for any that message vote. You have two choices a GOP asshat and a Democrat...you help elect the GOP than you are scum...just my opinion. I never watch her anymore and have thrown out any blue-rays I had. I used to like her...gave her a pass in 2000 but not anymore. And notice, Miss rich Sarandon can afford to weather Trump unlike the rest of us...and she has no remorse. She lectures us! I turn off any program she is on and send a message that I did so.

the me too movement is a particularly bad fit since you helped put a rapist and a pussy grabber in the White House. They are also gutting protections for women in the workforce in terms of equal pay and recourse if you are sexually harassed. Wow, twice now, you helped fuck all Americans but particularly women by helping elect Republicans at critical times...Bush II and Trump. I think you and others in your anarchist movement weakened Kerry early in the campaign too. Again, my very best fuck you goes out to you and Nina the other traitor to the progressive movement.

from their work. I enjoyed a great deal of things from folks like Orson Scott Card (Ender's game, yo!) and many comic artists whose politics I disagree with but can still enjoy their work on the page.

But Sarandon, damn, something about how she was out there, how she presented herself, made it so that I really don't want to see her in any film or project. I have the same kind of visceral reaction to her that I do when I see megan mcain on the view. Just revulsed.
