Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier 'Not Supportive' of DNC Lawsuit: It's 'Ill-Conceived'

by Chris Riotta | 5:37 pm, April 20th, 2018

Rep. Jackie Speier (D—CA) described the Democratic National Committee’s lawsuit against Russia, the Trump campaign and Wikileaks as an “ill-conceived” idea that’s “not in the interest of the American people” during a Friday interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

The California Democrat slammed the newly-announced lawsuit, which alleges the DNC paid upwards of $1 million on repairs after a massive hack into the party’s email accounts and claimed Trump aides encouraged Russia to interfere in the 2016 election by undermining former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“I actually think this lawsuit is ill-conceived, and I’m not very supportive of it,” Speier said Friday. “I think we have a very serious criminal activity underway in this country by the Russians and possibly by those within the Trump campaign and to make this political is actually the wrong thing to be doing.”

“I’m not interested in a political tit-for-tat — I’m interested in getting to the truth, and if there is criminal conduct, holding people accountable,” she added.

Come on, Jackie. At this point in America, with our democracy at risk, we must unify. Criticize the would be autocrat and his party and the GOP billionaires that run the party. Only say positive things about Democrats and patriots.

Spiers comments were negative and should be fair game for discussion.

He said that he and other Dems in Congress were surprised and had no knowledge beforehand but he thinks it is a brilliant move since Repubs have shut down House investigation and the lawsuit will approach the matter from a different angle rather than from political office holders in government.

Tom Perez made some good points about need for action and more exposure before November election since WH and Repubs are doing nothing to secure our elections.

We’re suing the Trump campaign and Russia.

snip//

"Today, the DNC is filing a civil lawsuit alleging that Russia perpetrated a brazen attack on American democracy during the 2016 election, and found a willing partner in the Trump campaign.

Here’s why: a major part of Russia’s attack on American democracy was the cyberattack on the DNC and theft of the DNC’s proprietary information. This stolen information was then released to the public by Russian agents and
WikiLeaks to damage the Democratic Party
and influence the 2016 election.

We’re taking this action because we believe no one is above the law, and we must pursue every avenue of justice against those who engaged in this illegal activity against the DNC and our democracy. We must also prevent future attacks on our democracy, and that’s exactly what we’re doing today."

P.S. Just what I've been saying..

Now, putting together a lawsuit like this, with all the proper documentation, has taken some time. That’s why we’re filing it today, both to seek justice and to deter further attacks on our democracy.

Dems who don't like this continue to give gop ammo against the party. I'm sure faux is reaching out to their people for tomorrow. We'll see.
