John Kennedy had a dream he did not see. That was to get the US to the moon by the end of the the 1960's. And we made it with the best public education in the world. He was a Democrat with vision.
Now that the shuttle program was scuttled thanks to Pres Bush and huge budget deficits run up by the GOP we no longer have a viable NASA. The GOP would rather see our space program privatized and run by Walmart or Mc Donalds. We have no viable booster rocket to send our astronauts into space. We must use the Russians who we soundly beat decades ago.
Now the Chinese have tested a new booster that will help them build their own space station and take them to the moon while the US just watches them do it. THANKS TO THE GOD DAMNED GOP AND ITS BUSINESS ALLIES we have funded the Chinese space and even military efforts. Whose flag does anyone think the GOP really salutes as they allow our jobs, our technology, our economy to be outsourced to China.
Romney, Bain, the GOP and religious nuts will only accelerate our demise given the power. Meanwhile thousands of our best technicians laid off at NASA will be greeters at Walmart or hamburger flippers at Mc Donalds. We will have lost an entire generation of people who made a difference and made this country great.
So thanks GOP assholes.

(611 posts)We have only two viable parties and the population is constantly being told that they're interchangeable. People are bombarded with constant distraction and misinformation and many of them can't spare much attention or energy for politics. The message that government is always the problem and never the solution already resonates with too many, and the subversive tactics of the RW House have successfully reinforced that belief.
That, plus everything George Lackoff has observed about why people align with the Republican party.

(8,217 posts)In general people, particularly the rich are likely to hoard money and wealth.
Doing so makes money unproductive.
The idea of hoping that the rich will share the wealth is idiotic, and more likely a damn scam.
Without Government levying more taxes out of that, it remains as static and does not move around the wider economy to help in improvement. The only improvement it actually does is fattening up a bank account.
So rather than improving education, infrastructure or anything else, it gets used elsewhere. More likely another country where labor is either more educated and/or cheaper. In doing so, it forces development in those areas rather than here.
So the US loses out on that as well.
