He got jumped while reloading, right?
In the midst of a discussion on Facebook about solutions I commented about magazine size and malfunctions (Aurora CO movie theater). I was challenged on how often that happens so I started looking. Someone did some serious research here.
This includes malfunctions, reloads, and shooters stopped while reloading.

*I originally wrote this article about four years ago. I updated it after reading Ron Borcshs excellent chapter on active killers in the book Straight Talk On Armed Defense. Rons research alerted me to several previously unknown active killer cases where the shooters had malfunctions. I did some more research in addition to Rons excellent work and came up with a more complete list of historic active killer events where the killer had a malfunction or an empty weapon at some point. I have at least 27 documented shootings where this has happened.
In fact there could have been many more injuries and possibly more fatalities the reason for that is that the man had an assault rifle
and were hearing from witnesses the gun appeared to have jammed after only a few rounds.
Jamming weapons are not uncommon in active shooter events. In fact, another spree shooting with much more media coverage (the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado) had a similar ending...

(39,171 posts)The Aurora shooter had a 100 round magazine which are notorious for jamming.

(182,877 posts)I had one guy on Facebook claim he could switch magazines in 1 second so magazine capacity didn't matter. 1 second, uh huh.

(17,865 posts)but you can get 500 rounds out of a semiautomatic in under five minutes even with switching magazines. Stopping and switching after 15 is better than 30 or 80 or 100 even if you are planning to shot back.
I would like to see a slow reload after six rounds myself for all guns sold in the US.
