The US (and global) MSN was going crazy for weeks after that.
Even BEFORE the election the subject was out and being discussed.
On October 31, 2016, a week before the election, Mother Jones reported that a former intelligence officer, whom they did not name, had produced a report based on Russian sources and turned it over to the FBI. The article disclosed some of the dossier's allegations
A Veteran Spy Has Given the FBI Information Alleging a Russian Operation to Cultivate Donald Trump
Has the bureau investigated this material?

(1,461 posts)after Buzzfeed published the dossier. It was EVERYWHERE. All the US late night comedians, etc. etc etc.
Where do you think the thousands (tens of thousands?) of pee pee tape references on this board have come from over the last year and a half? It was huge news over here in the EU for weeks too, and is referenced almost daily still.
You are framing this entire thing like it has basically remained "locked in a box". That is just ludicrous. Even completely non-political (or marginally engaged) people have heard of this Now, getting them to care, and stop Trump, there is the rub, I give you that.

(22,020 posts)That is the claim. Not all the "rumors" you seem to refer to.

The Real Story
Trump and Russia: A Long Relationship
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p052nt68
President Trumps connections with Russia is a story that wont go away. There are so many allegations flying around that it can be difficult to separate what is actually known and what is rumour. The President and his supporters have one key point - that despite all the coverage and official investigations, there is still no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Nor is there evidence that Trumps business connections to Russia are other than legitimate. But did Russia try to influence the election outcome? And what about the stream of stories linking members of Trumps team to Russia? As a special counsel is appointed to oversee the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the US presidential election, Owen Bennett Jones and panel of expert guests marshal the facts and explain what is known for sure about Donald Trumps longstanding relationship with Russia.

(2,034 posts)a great thread... The story is just too big for any one organization or area of expertise. Couple that with the importance of an accurate timeline and corporate medias other issues, and we have all the more need for citizens like Seth to give context and make connections that have been missed (or in cases like this, suppressed or fallen through the cracks)

(58,785 posts)officials until it's confirmed and then until events, and reporting by low media, push it to the fore. In general, most feel the public does not need to know every personal activity of officials, any more than they need to know ours. They don't report on presidents' children either.
