Trump's French kiss: Emmanuel Macron disarms president's power handshake with a peck on the cheek

France's President Emmanuel Macron greeted President Donald Trump with a French peck on the cheek Monday as the U.S. leader welcomed him to the White House.

He and his wife Brigitte were greeted by the Trumps outside the West Wing to start the first state visit of the presidency, which will feature a lavish state dinner planned by first lady Melania Trump on Tuesday.

Presidents Trump and Macron had competed with power handshakes at previous meetings, but this time it was the visitor who disarmed his U.S. counterpart with a traditional Gallic greeting.

I’m sure Trump hated the peck on his cheek and felt he needed to reestablish dominance.

Like the idiot he is. It's so funny how he is acting like he and Macron are great friends. I think Macron has been trolling him all along.

But, it was always male-female. Every morning each woman we worked with at the facility would greet us this way but each male would shake hands. Always greeted with a smiling bon jour. Also, every one made it a point to say bonsoir as they left work. No matter where you were at the moment, they went searching for you. It was a different world.
