This was my response to an OP that sheshe2 posted. Here is a shout out to sheshe for encouraging me to make my response an OP. link:http://upload.democraticunderground.com/100210529953Not only do I miss complete sentences, I also miss his articulate and compassionate responses. I miss feeling safe and secure. I miss the way he made us feel united. I miss how he appreciated the little things and also his playtime with visiting children in the WH. I miss his environmental causes. I miss his commitment to advancing women's causes (equal pay & VAWA) I miss his self control, determination and grasp of realty. I miss the way he would reach across the aisle. I miss his commitment to this country. I miss so much more about him and his family. His legacy is always present, they can try to erase it from history but we won't let them.
I am so glad you posted this as an OP, Niagara. My thoughts exactly on this man, our President. I was an Obama supporter for more than eight years. I do miss him.
His legacy will live on.
PS...thanks for the tag.

I will definitely check it out

(905 posts)asked why we didn't keep him. She is in first grade. We spent an entire family dinner talking about the limits of terms for president. She seemed confused since FDR had more then 2 terms. She seems to think we, her family, screwed up.
When first graders notice, you know it's bad.

(83,815 posts)Hi, Trixie.
it's difficult to explain things to them at that age but just keep explaining it to her. She'll get it and she'll realize her family isn't the ones who screwed up
trixie2
(905 posts)When the kids were her age we started showing time by pieces of paper. Paper comes in 500 reams so we would put 1 sheet down for her brother who is 1 and 7 sheets down for her. Then we would jump to her parents who are 36 and then to us who are 50s, finally to her great great Aunt we would put down 92. We then would look at a history book of say the middle ages and put down a ream of paper. She got it.
Explaining the size of her family to millions will be harder so we keep showing marches, protests and such.

Even his biggest "scandals" were nonsense - after all he looked good in the suit and Grey Poupon is delicious on a bacon cheeseburger

(29,719 posts)mustard and a suit. Oh the horror.
I miss almost everything. I wish he had pardoned Leonard Peltier and not appointed Vilsack and had kept Howard Dean on and left Rahm at home.

(13,191 posts)Hard to praise President Obama's steadfast loyalty and knock him for being loyal to a long standing ally.
Now I suppose we could knock his judgement in having Mr. Emmanuel as a long standing ally, but...
Even that is a bit of a stretch given that at the time Rahm's role was the "bulldog" political operator that the Admin needed - At least that was the spin
But wow what a disappointment as the Mayor of Chicago. Truly an arrogant bullying shitheel of a politician when left alone
WhiteTara

Rahm's greatest blunder was in his pushing Dean aside. Dean had united this country and gave Barack his victory and Rahm shit on him.

His legacy will not be erased. They tried that with Jimmy Carter, and it has not worked. Obama contributed so much more in his two terms.
