(14,249 posts)The law prohibits discrimination against people on the basis of race (that applies to all races, so it's just as illegal to throw someone out for being white as it is for discriminating against them because they're a minority), gender, religious affiliation, disability, etc. This isn't random. It's based on a demonstrated history of discrimination - in fact, in order for the law to be passed and to pass constitutional muster, the history must be proven.
It is NOT illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis of their political affiliation.
It's not a slippery slope at all. Some kinds of discrimination are legal. Some are against the law. Pretty simple.
