Is Nikki Haley the most popular politician in America?

Washington (CNN) American voters of different partisan stripes don't agree on much nowadays, but they can agree on this: most of them approve of US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.
A broad 63% of American voters approve of her job performance vs. only 17% who say they disapprove in a new Quinnipiac University poll. Twenty percent had no opinion. Her approval spans party lines: 75% of Republicans, 63% of independents and even 55% of Democrats say they approve of how she's handling her job.
<snip>
Haley's number climbs higher than those of virtually every active politician on the world stage today. (We should note, though, that approval ratings, which measure job performance, are slightly different than favorability ratings, which tend to hinge more on overall likability.)
Several active politicians, such as former Vice President Joe Biden (58%), Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont (57%) and Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona (54%) do have favorability numbers above 50% in recent CNN polling from December 2017 and January 2018. Former President Barack Obama reached a favorability rating of 66% and former President George W. Bush hit 61% in a CNN survey in January. Defense Secretary James Mattis reaches a 59% approval rating in the same survey.
<snip>
It's worth noting that national security and foreign policy positions tend to be more bipartisan than other roles; Haley was overwhelmingly confirmed by a 96-4 margin in the Senate last January.
Some US foreign affairs officials are very popular: As secretary of state, Hillary Clinton's approval rating soared as high as 77% in a CBS News poll in January 2010. Then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright earned a 62% favorable rating in a Gallup/CNN/USA Today poll in February 1998.
But others struggle: Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson only managed a 31% favorable rating in an October poll from Quinnipiac University. Former UN Ambassador Susan Rice earned only a 35% favorable rating in a 2012 CNN poll.

(44,133 posts)But yeah, shes a Republican. Always a bad bad flaw.
To me this is the real shocker:
President George W. Bush hit 61% in a CNN survey in January. I guess Trump has made people nostalgic for W.
But this polling suggests Hailey might make a formidable 2020 candidate if she has those kinds of ambitions.

(10,026 posts)We, as Democrats, will often give credit to opposing party members if they are qualified and capable despite differences in ideology. I believe in the saying "elections have consequences" and IF this had been a fair election, and department heads were qualified, capable, and not vindictive assholes trying to destroy their departments (Unlike DeVos, Pruitt, Mulvaney, Zinke, etc.) and legislative leaders were not purely partisan hacks (Ryan, McConnel, etc.) I would have better opinions of them.
Many Republicans I know just cannot admit ANY Democrat is worthy of their position.

(6,976 posts)Was HIDEOUS as Governor. LOTS of alleged skeletons in her closet. Also, guilty of hiring buddies to fill positions in her cabinet that had NO experience in their jobs. thuglican's LOVE doing that type of "stuff." Not sure if the corporate-media would help to drive her numbers down like what some did with Hillary and her not really a scandal email scandal. That's IF Hailey's "allowed" to run for the presidency at some point down the road.
Yes, I can hear the likes of Andrea Mitchell aka Mrs. Greenspan disparaging Hilliary over her not really an email scandal AGAIN as she hibernates peacefully at home in Chappaqua Meanwhile, tRumputin/thuglicans will be doing them, unless Dems get control of the Congress this Fall and play HARD BALL with Fatso-In-Chief moving forward--That's IF he's still in office 🤔

(32,086 posts)She was easily the worst governor I've seen since moving here, and there have been some really bad ones, including her replacement. She is as phony as a three dollar bill, and she's dumb as a stump. Your relatives' allegations of corruption are accurate, and they go back to her days as a state representative. She's as dirty as shit. Once in a while, she'll do something right. People will only focus on that, while not realizing that she only did it out of political expediency. The flying of the Confederate loser flag on the statehouse grounds is a perfect example. It was up for her whole first term, and she did nothing. In fact, she supported it. She didn't acquiesce until a bunch of black people were massacred in their church by a white racist punk, and it forced her hand. Folks, don't let her snow you.
