Fox & Friends Hurriedly Shuts Down Interview As Trump Rants About Mueller

Fox & Friends Hurriedly Shuts Down Interview As Trump Rants About Mueller
Anchors grew visibly uncomfortable as they listened to the president undermine his own legal defense.
BY TINA NGUYEN APRIL 26, 2018 11:39 AM

In what is surely a first for a news network, the hosts of Donald Trump’s favorite variety show, Fox & Friends, hurriedly ended an interview with the president Thursday morning as Trump began ranting about Robert Mueller and threatening to seize control of the Justice Department.

The phoner began pleasantly enough, with Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, and Ainsley Earhardt tossing the president a softball question about his wife: April 26 is Melania Trump’s birthday, a “very, very special day,” the president explained, though the First Lady apparently didn’t get much beyond the shout-out she received on air. “Maybe I didn’t get her much,” Trump admitted nervously, when Kilmeade asked. “I got her a beautiful card. You know, I’m very busy.”

The conversation went downhill from there, slowly devolving into ever-longer bouts of furious ranting, as the president was asked about the scandal surrounding his allegedly prescription-happy personal doctor, Ronny Jackson (an “unblemished record,” he said), conservative YouTube celebrities Diamond and Silk (“beautiful women”), and James Comey (“a leaker and a liar”). He praised Kanye West, lamented that Shania Twain had backed away from defending him, congratulated the Republican Party on doing “the thing” in the Civil War, and complained about his treatment on CNN (“I don’t watch them at all,” Trump insisted).

The hosts exchanged furtive glances as they simultaneously began interrupting the president, insisting that they were out of time, even as Trump continued to shout over them. “Right, all right,” Kilmeade said. “All right,” Earhardt interjected. “O.K.” “We’d talk to you all day but it looks like you have a million things to do,” Kilmeade added. Earhardt smiled: “Thank you so much for being with us.”

The Fox folks didn't hurry nearly fast enough to make Trump seem not unhinged. He was rambling like an over-prepared pageant contestant. He'd be talking about one thing, say some trigger phrase, then go off on an unrelated tangent. Sometimes he'd circle back to the point he had been making, sometimes not. The hosts seem alternately appalled and alarmed.

And this was in the friendliest venue Trump has. I do not know why the major media are simply allowing him to dodge press conferences, and pretending that his twitter tantrums are a substitute for actual Q&As with an independent press.

the MSM would have digital countdowns on screen 24/7 since the last presser.

But Shitler gets a pass, like always.

but that would have been because he was getting too wonky.

not, you know, because he's undermining his own legal defense and questionable image of sanity....

required viewing in this country. I think seeing this would convince another 5 - 7 percent that he is nuts. The closer we can get to 26-27 per cent the better. I am sure 25 percent would think he is sane and qualified to be President no matter what he says or does. I think when we get to 25 percent vs 75 percent that says he is unfit to be President; I think then he will resign.

Fox News scrambling so obviously to shut Trump up is obviously to protect him, but as usual he just kept shoving them aside so he could vent.

And now we all get to see it.

Will they ever feel safe enough to have him back on, and what excuse will they give him when he calls in? Aah! They have the tiger by the tail now!

He accused the FBI of criminal activity, he accused all major networks - CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN - of criminal activity, he accused Comey of criminal activity, he accused Obama of dereliction of duty... and, he took credit for the economy and unemployment, despite the fact that the trend of Obama’s 8 years had just been continued, he trashed 25 years of tricky foreign policy with N Korea as if he has accomplished anything yet. And he managed to insult all Democrats, replay the election bullshit and on and on.

I don’t see how anyone with the least discernment can possibly find this acceptable in a human being, let alone our President.

I really don't think so. It was just 30 minutes of paranoid ranting, lies, baseless accusations and ridiculous claims. He really needs to be interviewed by a panel who will challenge him and take him to task on what he says, because he is so used to nobody ever challenging his bullshit. He just pulls shit out of his fat ass and flings it and expects it to stick, because it usually does.
