Justice has prevailed today, I am amazed. Cosby found guilty.
It is amazing how he kept(s) denying what he knows to be true. He knows what he has done.
Many accomplishes know what he has done.
I am just amazed we are witnessing justice.

(22,037 posts)...does Cosby know what he's done? Is it possible that he's as demented as Trump and actually believes his own bullshit?
Thankfully, justice prevailed with this cretin.
Hey, Trump! Ya hear those hoof beats behind ya? They're comin' fer ya!

(12,618 posts)I'm actually quite convinced that the reputation he built up for himself as the "clean comedian" who never swears and is a perfect role model was a conscious effort on his part to deflect attention away from him so no one would ever discover his, um, activities. Because seriously, 25 years ago would anybody have ever believed this? Very few.

I wish the enablers around him, including his wife, were also held to account but I'm not holding my breath on that either.

(6,344 posts)Wouldn't that be something that the enablers could be held accountable as well. He would not have been as successful with his crimes.

(27,815 posts)He seems to have a sense of entitlement - my dislike goes back to an NCAA regional basketball tournament, where Temple was one of the teams. Bill Cosby came to see them (so far, all good) but the way he went about it was strange, no one could come near him, he didn't sit in a regular seat (or box), but instead, was curtained off in a special area, and all these rumors went around how you were not supposed to talk to him, etc. Some of the usual celebrity stuff, but it was around the time his show was on, he was making Jello ads, and otherwise giving off this jolly persona. I remember seeing sitting all by himself in the curtained-off space and something about it shot off a weird vibe.
I never forgot it, so when all these allegations started surfacing, the first thing I thought of was how peculiar he seemed all those years ago.

My dad was visiting earlier and we all grew up in Phila and knew all about Cosby's BS image. My dad said he is a sick, perverted and dangerous man and deserves to rot in jail. His squeaky clean image was a total farce.
Ali Velshi said on MSNBC that when Cosby "walked" into court he was almost an invalid...leaning on a cane and many people to support the poor old man yet on the way OUT of court after the verdict he had no need for a cane or other people to lean on. He almost sprinted out of court...he is a complete fraud. Even his wife wasn't there to support him today. Hello Melania and Donny, are YOU watching?

(1,979 posts)Now would be the time to come forward. They all had basically the same story of how he drugged and overpowered them and raped them. One victory for these women who were so terribly abused, and who have to live with the humiliation and memory for the rest of their lives - is not enough. He should be charged and convicted on each and every one of his abuses.
Karmically - oh boy. If you believe in an afterlife and reincarnation - taking away someone's power, choice, "mindfuck" are very serious choices to make in a lifetime and karma WILL balance the damage. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes when he has to face his spiritual counsel when he crosses over, or his higher power. To take the life he had and cause such pain and suffering to others when he had the opportunity to do such good, well it really pretty much cancels out any good he did accomplish.
I would imagine he is going to try to do anything he can to keep himself out of prison. He probably hopes that he can stay out for the rest of his life, since he is 80. This is why I hope that there are other lawsuits coming so that he HAS to face his punishment. He should also be sued by every female he intentionally harmed. 80 in numerology is an "8" which is abundance OR lessons in abundance/lack of abundance. It is also the number of balance (turn the number upside down and it is still an 8), and 2018 is an 11 year, and 11 is a "master lessons" number, kind of like having the opportunity to either spiritually get your PHd, or drop out and fail. Numerology-speaking, I have a feeling this is far from the end of his problems and 2018 may be an even tougher year for him than it already has been. He has probably worked very hard to hide as much of his fortune as he can, knowing that he will be sued and will have to pay. I hope the lawsuits will delve into his finances before he makes everything disappear.

It's at least as disturbing as it is comical.

(157 posts)No man has to rape women. But a man with Cosby's fame and fortune definitely does not have to drug and rape women to get sex. It's available for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to a man in his position. I find it interesting that he drugged them first. It's almost as if he was so ashamed of his sexual desires that he didn't even want to reveal this to the women that he raped. So by drugging them, perhaps in his twisted mind he thought he could satisfy his sexual desires without the women knowing he was not the man he claimed to be. If this is true, then if he had just been honest with himself and with the rest of the world instead of trying to maintain a "clean" image, he could have had sex with thousands of women and never had to apologize for any of it.
I don't feel sorry for him and he is finally getting what he deserves. But I just think there is more to this story than just purely a desire to rape or a desire to have sex. It would be like a famous millionaire nutrition expert wearing a disguise and stealing pork rinds from gas stations because they're embarrassed that they're obsessed with pork rinds. They could just walk in without a disguise and buy as many as they want, but their reputation as a nutrition expert would be tarnished. Cosby built his entire reputation and legacy on being a "clean" family man. It must have sucked to have a fetish for hot, sexy young women, knowing that if he acted on it, it could never get out that he was having sex with 2 of them a day. Look no further than Tiger Woods. Reputation and legacy tarnished forever all because he portrayed himself as a "clean" family guy while having the sexual appetite of Hugh Hefner. Hefner died a legend and never had to apologize for having 3 20 year old girlfriends at a time. Amazing. This is a reason why we shouldn't demonize people for their desires. Sometimes you are who you are and living a lie is only going to hurt you and the people around you.

(157 posts)I think it is reasonable to make this argument for rapists who don't drug their victims. They certainly overpower them and probably get some sort of rush out of it. But I'm just not so sure you can make this argument for a guy who drugs women in order to rape them. This is a horrible analogy, but losing 20 pounds by crushing it in the gym would certainly make one feel more powerful than getting liposuction.

(157 posts)He clearly got his jollies off from doing this. But I am just questioning if the underlying issue behind that was his need to maintain the lie he lived as "America's Family Man". If so, it's sad that so many women suffered when all he had to do was "take the free candy" and not be embarrassed about the sweet tooth. Yes, another horrible analogy but I seem to be full of them today.

(1,292 posts)These accusations against Cosby had been dormant for over 10 years until Hannibal Burress did a stand up bit about Bill Cosby being a rapist that got recorded on cell phones and went viral. Then, with the increased attention, more women came foreward and the story gained momentum. Without that viral stand up video, Cosby would likely now be in a new tv show playing a loveable grandpa and still be viewed as a national treasure.

(6,344 posts)I vaguely remember seeing a video of the public statement.
So, a huge part of this is all the enablers. There should be consequences for the enablers. Apparently, a lot of people knew about this over the YEARS - of his active abuse spree.
