avier Fernández is a resident of District 114 and a practicing attorney. Throughout his career, Javier has worked in both the public and private sector to improve the community in which he was born. Today, Javier represents clients advocating for transformative projects across Miami such as the Miami Design District, Brickell City Centre, Miami Worldcenter, and the Tri-Rail commuter rail service.
Javier is the oldest of four siblings raised in western Miami-Dade. He attended St. Theresa School and Christopher Columbus High School where he played football, before earning a full academic scholarship to attend Colby College (Waterville, ME). Following his service as an advocate in the non-profit sector and as chief of staff to the mayor of the City of Miami, Javier went on to study law at the University of Miami where he graduated with honors while working part-time.
Raised in a single-parent household, Javier came to understand the struggles of balancing the demands of work and family. As the son of a Miami-Dade Public Schools teacher of 41 years, Javier firmly believes access to quality, public education is fundamental to a dynamic economy and combating our communitys growing income inequality. Javier will prioritize state investment in the areas of transportation and affordable housing to address both growing crises that threaten our quality of life. Finally, Javier will be an effective voice in the Florida House for state action to address the growing threat of climate change and more sensible gun reform.
Javier and his wife, Dr. Anna Maria Patiño-Fernández, a clinical psychologist, have been married for 13 years. They have two children Susanna (9) and Lucas (7) and consider themselves blessed to be raising their family in District 114.
