Bill making it legal to ban gays & lesbians from adopting passes in Oklahoma

Bill making it legal to ban gays & lesbians from adopting passes in Oklahoma
By Alex Bollinger · Friday, April 27, 2018

The Oklahoma House passed a bill yesterday that would allow adoption and foster care agencies to discriminate against parents whose lives violate the “sincerely held religious beliefs” of the agency.

The “Adoption Protection Act” passed the GOP-controlled house in a 60-26 vote. A similar bill has already passed the Oklahoma Senate.

Supporters of the bill stressed that the state’s foster care system is “overloaded.”

While most people would think this is an argument in favor of maximizing the number of available parents to take children in, supporters say that religious agencies will take their ball and go home instead of placing kids in decent homes that violate the agencies’ “sincerely held religious beliefs.”

Desegregation violated many white Christians' "sincerely held religious beliefs". You're right, history is repeating itself, with a different minority group.

Let's just have 'red' US and 'blue' US, or whatever you want to call it. But, of course, that's unrealistic and unfair for a lot of reasons (people should be able to live where they want to live, people can't afford to up and move, etc.).

Still, Oklahoma's legislature passing such a bill and Democrats voting power over principle in red states/districts are precisely the sorts of things that make one think we need to just part ways. Of course, 'red' America wouldn't survive without being heavily subsidized by 'blue' America.
