I've seen headlines change after I posted a number of times, and usually it's to tone them down.

They sometimes/frequently (honestly, it's between the two) change their article titles as they edit the story after being posted. Not only that but for at least 8 years or so, Haaretz has also titled the stories differently on their main page than the actual name of the article once you follow the link. They've done this under two different editors and I don't know of any other online papers that do it like that, offhand. It's not 100% of the time but it happens a lot.

This may sound like a hyperbole but it's a based off a real series of articles Haaretz posted years and years ago which typify this sort of thing: On the front page is a link to a story titled something like "Jerusalem mayoral candidate told 'Go climb in an oven!' by political challenger", the actual story at the link is something like "Tommy Lapid says Nazi reference preposterous" and then eight hours later the name of that article may be changed to "Jerusalem mayoral race 'heats up' with 'inflammatory rhetoric'".

Since the old I/P forum had the strictest rules of all of DU, at least tied with LBN, it was something you got used to dealing with. I don't know if you regularly read Jewish newspapers but with the English editions there's a saying which applies: "a shande far di goyim". It basically means "To disgrace one's self in front of gentiles", keeping the subtext of constant persecution of Jews by same for the last 2000 years in mind. So what that boils down to is if there's a scandalous story of any sort that comes out of Israel, the Hebrew version (which doesn't pull any punches) will usually be translated directly into English (including the title) but then later a slightly more decorous headline might be chosen when the story is updated later.

Again, oddly, I don't know of another online newspaper that so regularly has essentially 3 different titles (at least) for the exact same article.

BTW, I don't know if you regularly follow Middle East news but if you do, try comparing the English versions of an Israeli newspaper to their Hebrew counterpart, using Google to translate (unless you happen to speak Hebrew). Most of the news is watered down or omitted entirely for the English/American audience, and then watered down again when the M$M picks it up.

The amount of anti-Semitic insults tossed between warring Israeli religious/social/political groups, alone, is an eye opener.

This is what should happen. But it won't. For some reason, politicians bend over backwards to not upset Israel. Even Mitt was there praising their tax rates and their socialist medicine.... all the while telling Americans it is the epitome of evil for us to consider it here.
