NH man accused of setting Navy sub afire, causing $400M in damage, to be back in court
By The Associated Press August 1, 2012 3:03 AM

PORTLAND, Maine - A civilian worker accused of setting a fire that caused $400 million in damage to a Los Angeles-class attack submarine is due back in federal court.

Casey James Fury of Portsmouth, N.H., faces up to life in prison if convicted of two counts of arson at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service says he confessed to setting a fire inside the USS Miami while it was in dry dock May 23, as well as a second blaze outside the sub on June 16.

He's due Wednesday in court in Portland for a probable cause and detention hearing.

The fire inside the sub required the efforts of more than 100 firefighters to douse. It remains to be seen if the nuclear-powered sub will be repaired or scrapped.

Guy I know from the local bar. The guy was having "problems" with his girlfriend and wanted time off from work (yeah,I know). He's just an asshole not a terrorist. And the word at the shipyard is the sub WILL be repaired...anyhow, that's what I heard.
