Without crews, ships have no need for kitchens, sleeping quarters, sick bays, recreational facilities and plumbing, making more room for cargo.

Saving money by eliminating crews at the cost of killing small boaters is a terrible plan.

When a small boat is capsized or the crew is injured they have no control.

Having a crew able to look out ahead to see what the behemoth is going towards does save lives.
