(8,918 posts)a couple of weeks ago and recounted an incident with IQ45.
Billy Bush was working for Access Hollywood or TMZ or some other similar gossip program.
During his interview with IQ45, Cheetolini kept claiming that The Apprentice was the highest rated show on TV.
So Billy Bush called him out on his lie, asking why he keeps saying that The Apprentice is the highest
rated show on TV when it is rated somewhere in the 40's?
IQ45 said, "All you have to do is say it, and the public will believe you."
And, right now, I'll have to agree with IQ45. He can say anything he wants, and the voting
public, that doesn't follow what's happening in DC, will believe what he says.
From that point on, I believe that's why IQ45 continues to lie, because people will believe it.

(22,037 posts)Trump has been a boil on the ass of our society since he first came to prominence in the late '70s. His bluster, bloviation and bullshit have been there for all to see. It has forever baffled me that anyone would take him seriously.

(56,828 posts)I just remember him for the tabloid headlines in the 80s and then my ex-wife hating him in the 90s (she was from the Atlantic City area)
And, I remember when he wanted to build a casino in CT and somebody mentioned that the Indians had exclusive rights in the state (Native Americans that run the mega casinos at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut) and his response was "They don't look like Indians." I guess he had expected them to run around with feathers in their hair and carrying spears

(82,849 posts)Yes, we goggle at the stone-brained true believers, but if we're going to remove this blight of a president, we have to rally public opinion to our side. Impeachment and removal are political processes. We need to lay the groundwork before building the case, and part of that is getting people to see Trump as a liar who needs to be removed from office because he's hurting the country. Keep in mind that there are still people (like Roger Stone) walking around who think that Nixon was unfairly hounded from office.
Trump might resign, but his aversion to looking like a loser is so ingrained he might go through the whole sordid process. In that case, we are going to need the Wall Street Journal and other outlets that have credibility with the reactionary right on board.

(5,810 posts)Making all the Birther claims about President Obama. I knew then he was full of sh*t and about as genuine as a three dollar bill. By the time he was running for president himself, I could barely stand the sound of his voice because he uttered so many lies. It was just impossible to see a grown ass man stand on a platform and say one lie after another without even flinching.
For anyone now who still believes a word he says, I pity you. The evidence that he is a pathological liar is easily obtained. Take off your blinders and open your ears. He will hurt you in the long run. Hell, he will hurt you in the short run. And heres the thing. He does NOT care. As long as he gets what he wants, he does not care. Know that and learn. He will hurt you. He will hurt all of us.

(22,137 posts)I am thinking about the ongoing list of lies/deceptions at over 3,000 plus, PLUS the ones that we don't know about (told in private to his cronies and the like)...I guarantee you 3,000 plus lies will jump thousands more.
Especially the lies I'm sure he's telling his wife (RUMP)...I didn't do anything (about the $130K payoff and others I'm sure that are out there and we just haven't seen yet).

(52,253 posts)Liars will keep on lying if they keep on getting away with it.
The media failed to punish him severely for the obvious birther lies. Even ignoring the equally obvious racism involved, the media should have pummeled him for the complete lack of credibility from the get-go, to the extent that they gave him air time at all.
They should have questioned him on trust, truthfulness, honesty, an integrity at every appearance. Because that's what they'd do to a democrat who somehow was managed to launch a career based on obvious lies.
Nitram
(22,822 posts)lies, they ridiculed him, they criticized him. Trump supporters don't read or listen to any media other than the right wing media. That's not the media's fault.

(52,253 posts)i guess you're making a distinction between the foxnews/hate radio media and the msm.
clearly we agree that the foxnews/hate radio part of the media promoted donnie (and many others like him) and i assume you'll agree they are a pox on humanity and deserve much blame for inflicting donnie on america.
where we differ is that i'm not letting the msm get a pass on their promotion of donnie. yes, it wasn't as biased as foxnews/hate radio was, of course, and yes, they did laugh at him initially. yet they continued to give him air time and interviews. somehow, completely legitimate third party candidates get virtually no airtime, yet a liar and a clown like donnie can get interview after interview promoting the same birther lie.
again, yes, they called him out on it, but they let him respond and keep lying and they kept letting him back on the air for more. that is promotion and that helped him politically, in a way that they had no problem refusing to help people like gary johnson or evan mcmullin, who got minimal airtime. the msm had a story or few, laughed at johnson sticking out his tongue, then pretty much ignored them.
why couldn't they do that to donnie?
people who become darlings of foxnews/hate radio should be treated the way the mainstream movie industry treats porn stars -- mostly radioactive, but maybe a novelty good for a cameo or a background shot. that's it.
then we would have been spared this walking textbook sack of toxic psychological defects.

(22,822 posts)refer to those who engage in real journalism. In a broader sense, though, they are all media of course. I agree that the pursuit of ratings did lead to an over-exposure of Trump. While that did expose the violence he encouraged at his campaign events, and many of his more absurd and bigoted statements, it also kept him more visible than he should have been. In defense of the media, the majority of people in the country, which I believe included Trump himself, believed that Trump couldn't possibly win. Media attention didn't flow to Trump until he was the most likely candidate, and then the actual Republican nominee. No reputable journalist would have ignored the Republican candidate for president as you suggest they should have. I reject the notion that the media a significant factor in Trump's election. If they were, no one would have voted for him.

(52,253 posts)frankly i think the media is irresponsible to dismiss third-party candidates as much as they do, but there's no good argument to have treated donnie any better, especially if the prevailing wisdom is that donnie wasn't going to win. that's exactly the justification they always give for almost completely ignoring and dismissing third-party candidates.
in any event, there's zero justification for giving donnie a wildly disproportionate amount of airtime. if hillary was the heavy favorite to become president, then her policy positions should have been considered far more newsworthy than donnie's idiocies like the wall, which dominated news coverage.
Nitram
(22,822 posts)far more newsworthy" That's the bottom line. It should have been about policies, and which ones were realistic and which ones would be good for the country. I get most of my news from the Washington Post and NPR, and they spent a substantial amount of space and time on policy matters. I don't watch TV News at all. Zilch. TV is all about the image, the movement, the sensational. Where's Walter Cronkite when we need him?
unblock
(52,253 posts)what's depressing is that the media will feel no remorse and will not learn.
ok, maybe they'll run a few of those self-indulgent mea culpa stories but they won't change a thing.
they profited from promoting donnie, they have been profiting from the outrage and scandal since the early days of the transition, and they'll profit from the tearing him down on the way out, however that unfolds.
so the next time they have to exercise some journalistic integrity, why on earth would they try to avoid the same mistakes?

(22,822 posts)"free advertising," you are missing the point. If they hadn't reported on these things they'd be accused of covering up for Trump. The fact is 1) Trump supporters were not influenced by the media (unless you consider Fox "the media" , 2) the FBI broke regulations by announcing new evidence in Clinton's email case two weeks before election day, 3} Russia waged a sophisticated and wide-ranging disinformation campaign on multiple fronts, 4) Republican voter ID laws suppressed the Democratic vote in key states, 5) the Green Party played the role of spoiler, siphoning off even more potential Democratic votes. It was not the media that lost the election for the Democrats.
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,007 posts)That's a huge free advertising (negative advertising) that benefited tRump.
Your five points are correct. There was not any one single cause and the margin in the 3 swing Electoral College states was small enough (40,000 vote swing) that any of the 6 causes were enough to sway the College (your 5 and also the effect on the wobbly middle voters who are not tRump "supporters" but voted for him against Hillary because ... emails and other assorted junk).
if anybody but the most deluded followers still believes anything he says.

(22,822 posts)some time ago. Now Americans are just eagerly awaiting the next version of story. Watching Trump lie has become a national pastime. As Trump boasted during the election, he has great stamina...when it comes to inventing new lies to replace the ones he just told. He never gets tired of lying, always manages to come up with new ones. That's his true genius!

(2,596 posts)They will continue to vote for anyone with a red 'R' before their names whether they know who they are or care what they've said and done. It doesn't matter to this group of so-called *conservatives* what they say, do or whether they believe in god or not. I've long believed that the majority of the people aligning themselves with the rethug party are racists, misogynists (and that includes a healthy majority of rethug women), Christian in name-only. They vote for the party that best represents their mindsets and the person who spouts those views the loudest. This is who they are and tRump is what they stand for. As long as he's saying what they want to hear, they won't see or listen to anything else. These people simply don't care who or what tRump fucks, including boys, or whether he and Putin are doing each other, or whether he's selling Putin the GPS locations of every nuclear weapon in the U.S. arsenal and those of our (mostly former) allies, these folks will continue to worship him and bask in his glory.
