(54,436 posts)But by and large, I usually do. My younger daughter interned with them for a year when she was going to college in Washington twelve years ago. Then-president Ellen Malcolm even called her "the best intern we ever had (!!)." An effective fund-raiser, Ellen could come on a little strong at times, and sometimes rubbed people the wrong way. Stephanie, Ellen's successor, has a somewhat milder touch, but no less effective, from what I can tell (only met her once).
By the way, if you're not familiar with EMILY's list, don't go googling "Emily." That was Ellen's favorite expression and philosophy about financing election campaigns, i.e. the earlier in the campaign you could raise money, the faster it could lift you up, and better your chances were. It stands for "Early Money Is Like Yeast."
Interesting side note: while my daughter was interning for them, I met, for the first time, a Senator who used to hang around there a lot. He impressed the hell out of me. I only met him twice--as a Senator. I met him quite a few times after that, but Barack Obama had gone on to higher office by then
