(15,805 posts)Get him into the senate and let him earn his chops in the trench warfare of partisan politics and get a few years of experience under his belt first. Lets see him use his clever pizzazz and intellect to outwit some of the old bulls, deliver a few memorable speeches and come at the presidency much like Obama did.

(24,254 posts)or pretty much anything.
Because until we know how anyone thinks about gun control, civil rights, cannabis legalization etc etc no person should be considered a candidate for anything.
I'll wait.

(42,770 posts)are first attracted by the public persona and personality (of known Dems) then comes policy research. And some look at policy first. Both approaches ok aren't they?

(14,249 posts)Most politicians start from the ground up and gradually build their policies up over time. They don't just spring onto the scene seemingly from nowhere just based on their "public persona and personality." That's how we end up with Donald Trump.

(42,770 posts)In your face. Doesn't back down or soften what he says with a zillion qualifiers. Backs up what he says with facts. Quick witted. Young and energetic. Who fits that bill? Looking at the top 10 hopefuls and no one imho.

(115,836 posts)We're already seeing how well that works out. Sorry, no. Not Avenatti, Oprah, Rachel Maddow, or any of the other smart, attractive liberal celebrities who have never even run for their city council.

(42,770 posts)Respect and decency and an appreciation for the good traditions of our country. And just basic inherent intelligence that there are good people who have built our institutions and that they may need improvement or even overhaul...but that it all starts with respect.
Hell I never even knew our traditions mattered to me until trump spit on so many of them.

(21,754 posts)And because it is partially true and something we need to consider.
Trump got over $2 Billion in free advertising in 2016 and we do in fact need someone that can take the limelight off of him and put it on a Democrat. That is all I really know about Avanetti. But, don''t laugh. It is a fact.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,836 posts)for "our side," it's all "OMG, he/she should run for President!" No. He/she should keep doing what he/she is doing now and is good at. Mediagenic trial lawyers and smart people on cable news shows and popular celebrities should not run for President. People who have considerable experience in government, solid and well-known Democratic/progressive principles and positions, and no skeletons in their closets should run for President, not shiny-object people who have never even run for their local park commission but who are on TV a lot and say stuff we like.

(42,770 posts)for a new leader!. And it's utterly amazing there is no one voice amid this once in a lifetime opportunity. Trump owns 90 percent now. We can taut this person or that person..or say..blame it on that we are not in power.....but if you are honest...we have no one

(1,693 posts)I'm not going to say he should run for president in 2020, but the Dems need a copy of him. He's very telegenic. He comes across well on TV. He's not scared of ANYBODY. The guy is a bull. He has bravado and confidence, but not a jerk about it like DT. Obviously people must like him for him to keep getting invited on all the cable shows. He definitely should consider running for governor or senator in the next cycle. The kid has potential.
