THERES JUST A LOT OF SHADINESS AROUND AVENATTI: MAGA WORLD IS NOT QUITE COMING TO TERMS WITH STORMYS LAWYERS LATEST BOMBSHELL
At this point in the Russia investigation, Trumps allies in the conservative media are expressing a rather creative interpretation of events.

Indeed, while CNN and MSNBC went into breaking-news mode, and the nations leading newspapers scrambled to reorganize the next days front page, Fox News and other bastions of Trump-aligned thinking insulated themselves in a comforting cocoon of ignorance, or apathy. I think its pretty safe to say that a lot of the Trump world has willfully checked itself out of the news surrounding Michael Cohen, Jared Holt of Right Wing Watch told me, surveying the fake-news landscape. Trump world has paid even less attention to this recent development, aside from insinuating possible foul play in Avenattis acquisition of the records in question, he added. Rather than deal with the facts coming out of the investigation and reconcile with what it may all mean, theyve chosen to look elsewhere. Its pure cognitive dissonance.
Fox News, in fact, was mostly on autopilot Tuesday night, with just one story about the Cohen bombshell on its Web site, near-total radio silence during prime time, and only a passing reference to the scandal the following morning on Fox and Friends. As ThinkProgress notes, the name Michael Cohen was never mentioned Tuesday nightnot by Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, or Laura Ingraham, who spent the majority of their programs hailing Trump for a giant series of accomplishments, tearing down former New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman, or revisiting the cultural impact of their new rap god, Kanye West. By Wednesday morning, the hosts of Fox and Friends had moved to giddily harping on the growing popularity of therapy goats. They spent 48 seconds discussing Cohen.

The pro-Trump pundit and erstwhile conspiracist Jack Posobiec was similarly suspicious of Avenattis motives. Theres just a lot of shadiness around Avenatti, he told me, echoing an emerging talking point on the right. How does he have bank files from Cohen? Also, the company is American-owned, he added, referring to the investment firm that deposited half a million dollars in Cohens account. The firm, Columbus Nova, has previously been described as a subsidiary of Renova Group, which was founded by Russian billionaire Victor Vekselberg; Novas American C.E.O., Andrew Intrater, is his cousin. Nevertheless, Trumps supporters have seized on the murkiness of the relationship between Vekselberg and Cohen to call foul on the insinuations that Democrats have been eager to make. When an attorney for Intrater and Nova released a statement asserting that the firm was owned by Americans, not Vekselberg, for instance, Townhall.com columnist Kurt Schlichter pounced. Wait, the media is wrong? You mean Stripper Matlock didn't get it right? he tweeted.

(82,849 posts)You can almost set your watch by it, when someone is being too effective in damaging the prevailing ethos. Something will be found and blown up into a "scandal" that blunts that person's message. It only works one way, though; folks like Roger Stone can never lose their media credibility, no matter what.

(3,557 posts)It's not one of their headlines, you have to scroll down a little bit to find it, but there is an article titled "Cohen team says some claims from Stormy's lawyer are about other Cohens".
They are basically saying that some of the payments that are allegedly paid to Michael Cohen were actually made to a different guy named Michael Cohen in Israel and another guy named Michael Cohen in Canada. Avennati's records somehow got those guys names and data mixed up into the Michael Cohen that is trump's lawyer's records.
I'm going to call BS on the fox news claim.
-----edit to add------
found this on NBC:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/michael-cohen-says-stormy-daniels-lawyer-mixed-him-namesakes-n872871
so some of the claims that they have the wrong Michael Cohen are correct, but they are talking about deposits of $960 and $10,000 and stuff. NBC threw this quote in their article:
So, the major point of release remains substantiated.

Yes some grumble, but this guy is out there.
That's "shady"?
Him and a porn actress are all that's standing between
Maggot and him riding roughshod over the media.

(63,221 posts)At this point, I couldn't care less if he eats kittens for breakfast. As long as he is going after Trump and company hard and making their lives miserable, I'm a fan. He is the only one who seems to consistently continue to hammer away at them and he won't stop until he's got them. I'm tired of all the spineless "diplomats" on our side who don't want to upset the deplorables too much. To hell with them.
They are only going after Avenatti because is is effective.

Good for Michael Avenatti - you got 'em on the run now!

(1,237 posts)The subject line isn't all that different from what's being posted on DU since the bribery scheme was exposed by Avenatti.

(463 posts)So I'm fine with it. I assume all lawyers are self-aggrandizing assholes. But, he's my asshole.
As long as he's not doing anything unethical. Because Republicans are searching hard to find anything to paint someone the bad guy. Something that will stick with people who don't pay so much attention. So I want Avendetti to be so clean we can host a buffet off his ass. If they get something on him, with how much he's in media, it will hurt us.
But for now, I like him on tv every night talking about the treason we're dealing with. He's tireless. We need more tireless fighters on our side.

(28,211 posts)He's probably dealt with all kinds of scammers and tricksters and has learned their finer crafts.
There are profiles to most court cases, and while people think their case is unique, it's really not.
Divorces fall into 8 profiles, and a seasoned divorce judge has seen each one probably a thousand times.
Trump is playing an amatueristic profile that worked in the 70s, but as with everything else, he fails to grow.
