(CNN)A Democrat running for a US House seat in Pennsylvania offered praise for then-President-elect Donald Trump, called on Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign and said progressives "are the least tolerant of anyone who disagrees with them" in a series of now-deleted tweets.
Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli is running to replace retiring Republican Rep. Charlie Dent in what is now Pennsylvania's 7th District. Morganelli, who is a centrist Democrat running in a crowded field of six primary candidates, is backed by United Together, a group with reported ties with the bipartisan organization No Labels, and longtime Clinton associate Lanny Davis.
The race in Pennsylvania's 7th district pits the more conservative Morganelli against a slate of more liberal candidates, illustrating the intra-party ideological fights playing out nationwide among Democrats. Heading into Tuesday's primary, progressive groups are concerned that Morganelli, someone who once floated going to work for Trump's administration, could emerge as the party's nominee.
Morganelli has long been a hardliner on immigration, breaking with his party and advocating for a crackdown on illegal immigration. Since announcing his run in January, Morganelli has emphasized his efforts on several liberal policy priorities, including gun control, equal pay for women, alleviating student loan debt and increasing access to affordable health care.

So what if he is horrid on immigration, loves trump, and bashes Democrats. He's great on gun control...vote for him.
I have a better idea. Keep him out of contention by voting for his primary challengers.

(1,461 posts)DINO Dan Lipinski his win in the Illinois's 3rd congressional district primary. They are bad news. They funded harsh attacks on Marie Newman, by far a much better candidate.

Snip
One of the super PACs, United for Progress Inc., has spent $740,334 as of Sunday to bolster Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., in his March 20 Illinois Democratic primary battle with Marie Newman in the 3rd Congressional District.
The names of the super PACS dont link them to No Labels.
A Sun-Times investigation determined super PACS related to No Labels include: United for Progress Inc.; Citizens for a Strong America Inc.; United Together; Govern or Go Home; and Forward, Not Back.
Snip
Representatives of No Labels did not respond to calls and emails from the Sun-Times asking for comment. At one time the organization was not so mysterious about its political plans for this off-year election. In December 2016, No Labels announced it wanted to raise $50 million for super PAC giving to what it considered centrist contenders running in 2018.
Since then, No Labels has been appealing to mega donors from both parties.

(1,461 posts)The last time the district elected a Republican House member was in 1972 and it has voted for the Democratic president nominee consistently after 1988
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois%27s_3rd_congressional_district#Presidential_elections
Even before 1992 (when the boundaries where changed to make it far less Republican) it still voted for the Democratic House candidate in EVERY election starting in 1974 and since 1958 (60 years) has only had a Republic House member for TWO years (after the 1972 Nixon massive land slide)
United Together, No Labels and their ilk are rat poison for the Democratic party overall.
I will never support racist, pro-life, homophobic candidates, when there are far better actual Democratic primary candidates who actually espouse our platform. Marie Newman would have won in a cakewalk.

(58,830 posts)You're correct that it's a blue district.

(1,461 posts)It is no where near a MO McCaskill or ND Heitkamp thing. I can fully support them and other centrists in ruby red states. Lipinski is antithetical to my core beliefs.
Demsrule86
(68,576 posts)Exotica
(1,461 posts)of the anti-immigrant, pro-life, homophobic Lipinski, with a significant amount of that output coming in the form of attacks on Marie Newman, who is far, far more in line with our Party overall.
Not only that but Newman was endorsed by many, if not most of the major players, National Organization for Women, March On, Planned Parenthood, EMILYs List, Illinois Federation of Teachers, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Illinois Council, National Womens Political Caucus, NARAL, National Association of Social Workers, LPAC (LGBTQ), Human Rights Campaign, MoveOn.org, Democracy For America, Feminist Majority, National Nurses United, Hispanic American Labor Council, Blue America, etc etc. She also was endorsed by already serving Illinois House Democratic members, such as Luis Gutiérrez and Jan Schakowsky. She even had cross-over appeal with the further left parts of the party, so was the living embodiment of a 'unity candidate, that so many here hope we can have.
I remember seeing a post on DU claiming every single EMILYs List-endorsed primary candidate won. Well here you go with one case that shows that was not true, one who was really good and was partially laid low by the centre right, in favour of person who stands against vital planks of our platform and core beliefs.
Demsrule86
(68,576 posts)And as you pointed out with the money involved this was inevitable...hey I don't like the guy either.
Exotica
(1,461 posts)I am saying. He was as promising a sitting duck for removal in a safe seat as I saw the whole primary season, plus, along with Collin Peterson of Minnesota, one of the worst Democrats in Congress (worst IMHO, as the parts he swings right, even far right on are choice, race, immigration and LGBTQ issues). The difference is that Peterson's district is pretty much ruby red, so we are stuck with him, as he is better than any Rethug (although 33 Republicans rank as conservative or LESS conservative than Peterson does), lol, so he is realllly out there. At least he will vote for a Democratic speaker, that's about all I can say for either.
Hopefully the Blue Wave is so big it takes away any bargaining power from these types.
Demsrule86
(68,576 posts)We can only do our best to pick good candidates...this would have been a safe win for us over Lipinski as a Nazi is running in the GOP slot. But now we need to elect Lipinski ...he is a warm body that will give us the numbers for the house.

(31,261 posts)I would have preferred Newman and contributed to her. But I want the dem to win in November, big.

I don't know if you are going to have the same amount of conservatives in there now with the new configuration since this is concentrating the "Lehigh Valley" area of Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton, vs swinging all the way over to almost Harrisburg to capture more rural central PA folks.
