FLIPPABLE: Lisa Beck for IN-HD19

Born and raised in Crown Point, she attended St. Mary’s School. Her father was a proud member of the UAW while working at the Ford Assembly Plant in Chicago Heights. Her mother took care of her 7 brothers and sisters, while working side jobs to make ends meet and tending to the family. It was the example of her parents that made the values of hard work, integrity, and community service a part of daily life.

Lisa went to school and raised two daughters with Vernon, her husband of 36 years and the USW Local 12775 union president for NIPSCO workers. Lisa attended Purdue University Westville while their daughters were in school, and earned a degree in accounting. She then earned her law degree from Valparaiso University.

After law school, Lisa joined the Lake County Prosecutor’s office as a deputy. Rising from a trial attorney to the Administrative Deputy Prosecutor, Lisa proved to be a strong advocate for victims’ rights and a keen administrator of public programs. She introduced a drug initiative community policing program into high crime neighborhoods in Lake County. She was instrumental in creating the Lake County Sexual Assault Response Team to ensure that victims receive justice. In 2012 she started her own private law practice.

Lisa is passionate about community service, including working with the IN Coalition Against Domestic Violence, NWI Volunteer Attorneys, Dunes Learning Center, and Junior Achievement. Most recently, Lisa founded NWI Supporting Women, an organization which seeks to encourage women to take a greater role in public service and get involved within their own communities.

Lisa and Vernon’s daughters have continued their spirit of community service. Natalie is working on her PhD in clinical social work at the Institute for Clinical Social Work, while their daughter Katie is entering her second year at Chicago-Kent College of Law. Katie is employed by NiSource in Merrillville, and she and her husband, Zack Bryan, live in Crown Point.

With your vote, Lisa will bring her legal prowess, executive leadership, and devotion to the working families of District 19 to Indianapolis.
