Lauren Arthur for MO-SD17 (SPECIAL ELECTION TODAY)

Last edited Tue Jun 5, 2018, 10:01 AM - Edit history (4)

Lauren is currently serving her second term as State Representative for District 18. She sits on General Laws and Accounts Committees and is the ranking member on Health and Mental Health and Rules - Administrative Oversight Committees.

As a state legislator, Lauren has championed a number of policy issues. She has fought for funding for early literacy programs. She has filed legislation to bring greater transparency to elections, to protect survivors of domestic abuse and assault, and to make the Missouri Department of Revenue accountable to taxpayers.

Lauren was born and raised in the Northland. After graduating from North Kansas City's International Baccalaureate program, Lauren received a scholarship to Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.

During her time at Smith, Lauren interned at the Smithsonian's American History Museum and the Scottish Parliament. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in History.

Lauren returned home to Kansas City to work as a middle school teacher. She taught English Language Arts at Urban Community Leadership Academy, a charter school in the urban core. During that time, Lauren earned her Masters in Education from University of Missouri – St. Louis. Lauren worked as a Project Manager at VML, a global advertising agency headquartered in Kansas City. She now serves as Regional Director for Urban Leaders Fellowship, a program designed for early- to mid-career professionals who are looking to accelerate their leadership through a seven-week fellowship with a focus on policy.

In her civic life, Lauren is member of the Children's Trust Fund board and co-chair of Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. (NNI)'s legislative affairs committee. She has served on the North Kansas City School District's Strategic Plan Steering Committee. She also recently sponsored a child abuse prevention training with Synergy Services and hosts an annual food drive.

She enjoys spending time with her husband Russell and their dog Odie.

Not only that, I give her extra points for having a cute french bulldog. Hopefully that will gain her a few more votes.

But I would love the help. I seem to be the only DUer focused on the election.

Because we are fielding a much better team than the opposition, much better.

I meant it's early for most people who will only tune in starting in September.

Then Democrats can win in many other "red" districts. The Northland (I hate that term) is solid Shitgibon territory full of self absorbed racist assholes. I'll be pleasantly shocked if she wins.

Good luck to her though.

I'm talking her up with whoever will talk to me. Admittedly that's not very many people. For little dude I apparently am kind of scary looking, lol.

Also found out some independent fool on the right is trying to get on the ballot this fall which is wonderful as it would split the GOP vote and I can vote no on "right to work" this fall too!
