I am so sad...

since I just finished watching the last episode--when President Bartlet turns over the Oval Office to incoming President Santos--of The West Wing on Netflix.

It should have become real. It should have been President Obama turning over the Oval Office to incoming President Hillary Clinton.

I've been watching the series for about 3 months. Some days I would watch 2 or 3 episodes. It helped to get me through days of bad news--and that was most days--coming out of Washington, because the characters were so real, the dialogue was so smart, and the issues were so current. But I have been saving this last episode for when I needed an emotional boost. Today was the day.

I had watched the series when it originally aired on network TV. I was a huge fan. But I had forgotten a lot of the stories. I never realized how much of a role that Lawrence O'Donnell played in the series, both as writer and producer. No wonder I like his 10 pm news slot!

Now what? Can we really stand to wait for the mid-terms? Something has to give. I saw the documentary RBG about Ruth Bader Ginsburg over the weekend. What a force she has been for equality before the law. What a disaster the Court will become if the orange one is allowed to nominate any more justices. And I hate to even think about who Pence might nominate.

We are facing a crisis in this country. A real crisis. The Founding Fathers did not anticipate a party which would put their own self-interest above the good of the nation. They did not anticipate a totally unqualified pathological liar and con man able to convince enough people to vote against their own interests that he could become President. We are in a mess. A real mess. There is no mechanism for removing this man without the cooperation of the controlling party in the House and Senate--and that controlling party is corrupt beyond imagination.

As I was sitting at my desk writing this, the skies have opened up and it is raining. It wasn't supposed to rain here today. But it is. We need a sudden storm of unanticipated cleansing rain to clear out the putrefaction of the Trump regime. We need it badly, and we need it now.

Lawrence is a man of many talents, imo. I have never watched a single episode of the TV series. I do enjoy his cerebral news slant on MSNBC.

I could never bring myself to watch it. I couldn't bear to see a fictitious president acting presidential while the "real" president (then Bush) acted like a bully and a boob.

Have enjoyed the series but had not gotten to the end. Like me. Mahalo.
