I know lots of people still have the mistaken belief that it is very hard to get Japanese citizen or even that they don't allow the large Korean population here to obtain citizenship. It's completely untrue.
Not only is it very easy for Koreans born in Japan to obtain citizenship, but even those that move here can do it without all that much trouble.

Unlike other Olympic athletes who have changed their citizenship, Hayakawa did not naturalize just so she could play for the Japanese team:
With her mother having moved to Japan after remarrying, Hayakawa eventually decided that she would follow and in 2007 took up Japanese citizenship.
While many athletes have changed citizenship in search of sporting success, Hayakawa said her reasons for the decision were due to finance and family.
I didnt change my nationality solely for the archery career, the 24-year-old said during the Games. I needed to go to university in Japan to be with my sister and my mum.
Nippon Sport Science University let me go there for my archery talent so I continued to do archery in Japan.
According to Wikipedia, she works at a high school in Sasebo, where she helps coach the school archery club.
