Sally Yates on Trump's 'Spygate' Demands: 'He's Taken the Assault on the Rule of Law to a New Level'

by Tamar Auber | 7:19 pm, May 26th, 2018

Speaking to David Axelrod in an interview that aired on The Axe Files Saturday night, Yates noted that Trump’s tweeted out demands for an investigation into his self-described “Spygate” accusations are not business as usual for a president, and are actually, “truly unprecedented.”

“You know, this has really taken the assault on the rule of law to a new level,” Yates said, warning about Trump’s words.

She added that from the beginning, “President Trump has not observed the time-honored norm that’s been in place at least since Watergate that there should be a real division between the Department of Justice and the White House.”

Then addressing Trump’s demands for an investigation directly, the former acting Attorney General fired by Trump told Axelrod, “And here it’s even a step beyond a dangerous point because it’s not just directing a criminal investigation or to stop one… it directly relates to his campaign.”

She then stressed: “That’s truly unprecedented.”

say this type of assessment I feel sick and afraid for my country. It also reaffirms my decision to not have kids when I was a teenager. One less thing to worry before I die. My dog and I, and would be offspring, won't have to face the decades of repercussions from the non president and his co-conspirators and traitors. However, before that happens I am calling my reps, donating to support Dem candidates and causes, attending rallies and protests, discussing issues with total strangers, and encouraging everyone to speak up loudly and to VOTE!
