"President Obama is a Socialist" . . . said no actual Socialist, ever . . .

drawn in reference to here. However, since all the papers are owned by a single RW group, there's little chance of it happening.

I have to endure relentless misleading political ads for the 'conservatives' running for office in Arkansas and Missouri. These ads make frequent reference to 'ending Obamacare' (like any of those rubes KNOW what is in the Affordable Healthcare Act...) and 'lowering taxes' (as if the current administration hasn't already lowered taxes). One guy says he's an "unapologetic fiscal conservative." Another ad features 'Governor' Sarah Palin (she actually calls herself Governor!) likening the candidate for whom she is shilling to a 'mama grizzly protecting her cubs.'

My dear friend, with whom I must live until I get a job (stop laughing out there), turns on the television the moment she gets home. I don't get to control the remote. The dissembling and hate-mongering on the 'local channels' is overwhelming.

(Note that there are very few ads for Democrats. I haven't even seen a single pro-Obama ad, except on DU.)

I prefer not to say the name of the tiny town, since I DO have to live here.

I dearly love the Ozarks. Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed by the dire and now pressing consequences of our species' hedonism, I go out into the woods and enjoy this planet. I hope I can continue to do so until my days on this planet come to a close.

However, my heart is in the Ozarks. I might still be able to grow food here, and I certainly can obtain water on land that is still owned by a member of our family. I should mention that I believe we are facing catastrophic change in the next decade, with widespread famine and water shortages. (Am I the only one who's noticed that the M$M has assiduously avoided mentioning famine and water shortages as inevitable corollaries of global climate change?)

was our playground when I was a kid. The feds had not yet 'condemned' the surrounding land to make it a National Park. We swam in the river, floated it, or fished in it for most of my childhood. We rarely saw another human. If we did, we could be sure it was a neighbor.

Went to Dogpatch USA on the same trip, back in 1972. I went back a couple of times in the '80s on university field trips. One time was in the fall, and just like in the state song, the hills were "a-blazing like the sun in the sky". I would certainly like to go back some day.

I worked there one summer, while attending college. Such fun!

I hope we have a colorful fall. I would like to see at least one more before global climate change completely alters our planet.

I was there in '76 or '77, and I was a lowly service worker. BUT, all the other employees routinely came to my station to eat, because my co-worker and I kept the entire place clean, and we made the best food in the park.

were the little bitty roller coaster ride, and the "hillbilly houses" where the Li'l Abner characters hung out.
