(66,446 posts)In my way of viewing the film, HAL is the hero, not the villain.

(6,400 posts)I have the cute classic Star Trek red communications panel that ThinkGeek put out before. Makes the wooshes and sounds when doors open. I've got it set up next to my front door and anytime anyone comes in they're surprised but they realize what it is and love it.
Where can I find this wonderfulness?

I have to say, some of us have walking around dazed and confused for 50 years still trying to figure some parts of the movie out.
Unforgettable, certainly.

(15,943 posts)Lost In Space and Star Trek was what I was used to. Thought I was in the wrong theater when Dawn of Man came on. Baffled by the sudden jump to 2001. Confused when the intermission appeared, almost left the theater. Ending was incomprehensible. Saw it years later and thought...WOW! Great music, great visuals.
Nice summary by a teenage student Margaret Stackhouse. Kubrick himself thought it was the best analysis.
