Facebook Kills 'Trending Topics', Will Test 'Breaking News' Label

http://fortune.com/2018/06/01/facebook-kills-trending-news-topics/

"Facebook is doing away with its trending news summaries at the top of your home page.

The company has announced it will shut down the “trending” topics section after a four-year trial. Facebook says the news feature wasn’t popular with users.

“We introduced Trending in 2014 as a way to help people discover news topics that were popular across the Facebook community,” Facebook said in a blog post. However, it was only available in five countries and accounted for less than 1.5% of clicks to news publishers on average.”"

.............

I did not know that 44% of American folks get all or some of their news, (including fake Russian produced, anti-Clinton, pro-Trump, general sowing of election division and discord), though I bet some did...not Russians, of course!

Anyway, I applaud Faceplant for giving real news a try, after all these years of not giving a fuck for anything else but ad revenue, with zero filters for political abuse.

Good start.

Well, not quite true. If one keeps popping up in my news feed I delete it.
