(3,515 posts)So will other countries if we try to interfere in their politics in any direct or visible way.
We did it after WWII, but today, it will not be appreciated at all.

This administration is itching for a world conflict where people will suffer.

(19,204 posts)Putin to disrupt other countries' elections and government. There couldn't be a more blatant example of Trump being in bed with Putin.
Does Trump actually think he and Putin are going to share control of the world? We all know how Putin handles people who challenge his claim to total power. Trump would be found in a bloody heap beneath an open window, or slumped over his desk after eating a 'Putin Special' polonium sandwich.
That guy has about much power to personally intervene in Europe as Pee-Wee Herman
Europeans hate Trump

Stupid is as stupid says. Now the smart folks will align against him
His personal strength is nil is the point
Personally intervene, what does that mean? Nothing

(19,204 posts)Trump will do whatever is to Trump's advantage. Period. Trump's ego is his defining characteristic. Everything he does is for the glorification or enrichment of Trump and his family.
That will also be his undoing.

(14,492 posts)I agree but feel it's more likely he's being lead around like a puppy on a leash by several controllers like Miller and Bolton. They convince him that such-and-such policy (that they want executed) will be great for him and a WIN and he's in full-steam, and then the Tweets start.
That's what frightens me about Bolton. If he could convince tRump that a nuclear strike or full-blown ground war would be good for Trump Empire, it would be a go.
In the end, you're right - it's all about him.....
SergeStorms
(19,204 posts)whispering in his ear. You're right, that is scary! Anyone sitting next to Trump could make him change policy though. All they'd have to do is convince him it was the choice that made him the hero, that made him more wealthy, or made him appear more manly and virile.
I guess maybe he's not that predictable. Like people have said from the start, whoever talks to Trump last is the person he'll listen to.
Predictable or not, he's still a world class asshole and he's ruining our country.
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,492 posts)every time I hear Bolton's name because I remember his antics during W's war time (both he and Wolfowitz) and his stretch in the UN.
What's really worrying with tRump is that he has so many different people and interests pulling his chain in different directions and trying to stroke his ego. That unpredictability can only lead to (more) disaster and suffering for regular citizens.
Let's hope this nightmare ends soon. This old man has already seen enough pain and suffering for one lifetime, well before this asshole came along.

(19,204 posts)I'm getting a little long in the tooth myself, and I shudder at the direction this country is heading. My kids and grandkids aren't going to live in a country where we're ruled by a dictator. Not if I have anything to say about it!

(14,492 posts)regarding his own personal vulnerabilities. That's not exactly what I would call a soft side, as in caring about our fellow man. From what little I've read about him, I'm not seeing that he gives a shit about anyone but himself and a few in the hard-line Repug political bubble. So, he appears to be a perfect fit for Trump.
I suspect Trump tempered his dislike of gay people just so he could send a Bolton-ish hard liner to Germany, thus further amplifying his pattern of insane disruption of the international order and traditional norms.

(16,396 posts)I'm fortunate enough to be going to Ireland and Germany this year as a tourist and I'll be reverting back to SOP from 2000-08, which was telling people I'm from Canada any time I left the United States. By that I mean taxi drivers, bar tenders etc. People I meet in passing. I just get so weary of the Trump discussion. My wife and I were in England in October 2016 and were asked more than a dozen times about the election. Yes, it's a small inconvenience during an otherwise great time, but I'm more than a little embarrassed about being an American right now. Especially when traveling to places that more or less have their shit together. We are a disgrace.

As for interfering in our internal affairs, we're ready and waiting for him ... It will happen when pigs fly !
Speaking as European, we have to do something on our side. It is getting worse every day!
I can't do much on my own, but I can to the least, spread the good word and tell what's really happening and what you're undergoing.

Germany waited nearly 16 months for the Trump administration to send a new ambassador to Berlin. But Richard Grenell managed to offend many Germans the day he arrived ...
"Ric, my advice, after a long ambassadorial career: explain your own country's policies and lobby the host country but never tell the host country what to do, if you want to stay out of trouble," tweeted Wolfgang Ischinger, who was Germany's ambassador to the U.S. from 2001 to 2006. "Germans are eager to listen, but they will resent instructions."
German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle quoted Andrea Nahles, who heads the governing coalition junior partner Social Democrats, as saying: "It's not up to me to teach the U.S. ambassador how to be diplomatic, but he does seem to need a bit of tutoring."
And lawmaker Omid Nouripour, who heads the foreign policy committee in parliament for the Green party, told public radio network Deutschlandfunk, "Good cooperation means that you do not drive a highly aggressive, ruthless policy towards our security interests and, before you even show up, you threaten the German economy. It's just not a tone of cooperation" ...
