U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley Was Denied Access to Detention Center for Immigrant Children

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) visited a detention center for immigrant children near the Mexico border Sunday in an attempt to draw attention to the Trump administration policy of separating children from parents.

Parents, even those credibly seeking asylum, have been separated from their children as part of the White House policy.
-------
Merkley, accompanied by multiple video cameras and the American Civil Liberties Union, shot a Facebook live video as he attempted to gain access to the facility. (The video had been viewed more than 353,000 times within the first several hours.)

He was initially told that a manager would come speak to him when he telephoned into the facility from the front door. The police arrived first.

Cold-hearted, mean-spirited, uncompassionate shit.

I feared when trump got started that, by the time he was through, we wouldn’t have a friend in the world. Looks like we’re getting there alright.

Make America Grate Again.

The detention center in Brownsville, Tex. is run by the nonprofit Southwest Key Program at a location called Casa Padre, which was a former Walmart turned detention center, according to Merkley.

We need to be marching in the streets. The sight of a child being taken away crying from a parent must be heartbreaking, I want to see video in every Dem. ad. This is a defining moment in history. We as a people will be judged by how we respond. And we as progressives are on the side of human decency.

I dismissed it as crazy people saying crazy things. Their theory was that FEMA was behind it all and there was some sort of government operation to round all of US up.. but what if it was ICE all along? They were obviously doing as they wanted already. Prepping for a republican admin is nothing.

I've seen too much hand waving and outright claims that it's nothing but conspiracy theories from supposed allies lately that I fully expect that there won't be much outrage over this.

Would people in the late 60's/early 70's have been all over this and in the streets? Well, back then there were but two outrages publicized for the most part: the Vietnam war and racial injustice.Got rid of one but not he other.

Now, there are some many outrages it's like a Blitzkrieg.
