...they have been forewarned that a big story is about to break, and they want to create confusion and controversy before it happens?
Even Richard Nixon never thought about pardoning himself. But Trump is beyond Nixon. And Guiliani is out front pushing the outrageous comments for Herr Trump.
We might assume that Mr Mueller has informed them of what is about to happen? And, as usual, this is Trump's way of fighting back?
Their outrageous absolutism could be a trap set by Mueller? He could be putting the last blocks in place for an obstruction of justice charge? And like the rats that they are, they are biting on the cheese...

(22,143 posts)way different than for public consumption. I guarantee you that most judges wouldn't put up w/ the nonsense constantly put out by these guys (RUMP, G, etc.), e.g., shut up or you'll be found in contempt of court.
Hopefully a day is soon coming where we'll get to watch the greatest show on earth, and one that RUMP will be the star, in that his ass is getting nailed to the wall finally.

(11,869 posts)When the gang of eight was shown the supposedly incriminating evidence of surveillance of the tRump campaign and the Chief of staff showed up with the tRump attorney... I wondered if the attorney was there because there had been a target letter and therefore, the president's attorney was entitled to review the evidence. I then wondered if the gang of eight told them that they had the right to review the evidence but if they did so... the gang of eight would reveal the existence of the target letter to the public, so Kelly and Dowd walked away.
Nunes et all were told to shut up and back down. Now the plan is for tRump to expres the divine right of Kings?
Just my spit balling.
In addition, there was a meeting of relevant family members at Camp David this past weekend. Could be nothing. Could mean something. This certainly must be watched.
The fact is that we do not know what has been found in either a) the wiretaps or b) all the documents, especially financial documents the special counsel as reviewed. So we really don't know whether a crime has been committed or not.

(82,849 posts)Say something patently outrageous and ridiculous, wait for the satisfying echo and reverb from the conservawhacko commentariat, then say it again several times, and his dumbass followers will parrot it as if it was true. You will suddenly see polls that affirm the President can pardon himself running 40-60, and then inch up to about 50-50. Petrified of pissing off the goobers, the non-conservawhacko media outlets will play along and pretend that Trump is speaking some wild variant of the truth.

(4,999 posts)Mueller has to have the squeakiest clean investigation ever, given the political environment where a significant number of the GOP is on the Russian dole.
Mueller can not give them easy sound-bites to use against the investigation in the media.
This appears to be just Trump knowing he's guilty, knowing now that Mueller has the evidence, the hammer of justice will eventually come down, and it's time to make yet another distraction and confusion for the base.
I predict that before this is all over Trump will tweet that "God wants me to be president for life", or some such crazy thing to stir up the maximum distraction and appeal to the religious right even more so. Wouldn't surprise me if he's already made that claim.

(22,143 posts)stating your prediction is somewhat realistic and scary at the same time...

He's already jabbered about a 2nd term, and beyond too.
Disgusting.

(9,213 posts)...They met to come up with their game plan/or escape scenario.
Trump has now seen all of the Mueller documentation, from the Nunes meeting a fw weeks ago, and he knows he's in a bit of a pickle.
I'll give the guy one thing, which most criminals have, and that is the ability to know the precise moment to do whatever needs to be done to avoid prosecution. Whether it is stall, or settle out of course, or declare bankruptcy....Trump always does it right before the shit hits the fan, and I'm guessing he feels like that is pretty close to happening. For all we know, he will hop on a Russian plane during his North Korea visit and they will fly him to live out his life on some lonely island. We can only hope.
