A Topical Fallacy

If Trump pardons himself he will immediately be impeached

This is mantra of the MSM this a.m.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that since the same repugs who refuse to rein in Trump will still be in charge.

The assumption that they will suddenly spring into action makes an ass out of...

...you know the rest

And I doubt he will pardon himself unless he really feels like he is out of options

3. See, he won't have to pardon himself, since he won't be indicted

for any crime. The question isn't really whether he could pardon himself. It's whether a President can be indicted for a crime at all. Now, the Congress can impeach and remove a President, but it's really unclear about whether he can be charged with a crime in federal court.

Mueller's not going to indict Trump, for that reason. Individual states aren't going to indict him, either, because bringing a President to trial is a very iffy thing, to say the least.

Instead, Mueller will probably charge a bunch of people around the President, more or less forcing Congress to act on impeachment. He'll present all the evidence, charge the people near the President for crimes that involved the President, and make it clear that Trump is also involved. Mueller may well name Trump as an un-indicted co-conspirator, though.

This will all probably not happen until after the November election, or perhaps even in 2019. If Democrats regain control of the House in November, an impeachment will probably happen. Conviction is another matter, and we won't have a 2/3 majority in the Senate. However, facing a trial in the Senate, where Trump would have to testify, he'd probably resign to avoid that trial.

This other stuff? It's not going to happen. We need to be looking at the November election, not what's going on now. We need to take back the House and get a majority in the Senate. That's what we need to do. Let's focus on that.

6. I worry that a failed attempt to remove Trump from office could motivate the GOP base in 2020.

Removing Trump is clearly the right thing to do, but a failed attempt to do so could hurt us. There's no way enough Republicans will turn on Trump in order to convict.

It all sounded good until you said congress will be forced to impeach him

No - No they won't

There is no mechanism to force them

They are talking about the current congress
And even if we win(nothing should be taken for granted) we will never get 2/3's vote in the senate.
Majority or not - repugs won't impeach him
