Now Michael Cohen's associate's associate, Andreea Dumitru, has pleaded guilty to tax fraud.

First Cohen's associate Evgeny Friedman pleaded guilty. Now Friedman's associate Dumitru pleaded guilty. None of these pleas was officially part of the Mueller investigation, but they are likely having an impact.

My guess is that Dumitru provided evidence against Freidman, who in turn provided evidence against Cohen. Who will provide evidence against . . . . ?

ALBANY — The chief financial officer for ex-taxi magnate Evgeny "Gene" Freidman — an associate of President Donald J. Trump lawyer Michael Cohen — pleaded guilty Thursday in Albany County Court to felony tax fraud.

Andreea Dumitru, 42, of Sunnyside in Queens, an immigration attorney, admitted to third-degree criminal tax fraud — that she declared $10,000 less than the tax liability she faced in 2015.

Freidman and Dumitru were charged with first-degree criminal tax fraud and first-degree grand larceny, which carried the possibility of 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison.

Dumitru's attorney, Kurt Haas, moved to sever their cases last July arguing in court papers that their defenses would be antagonistic with each other.

"Ms. Dumitru was in many ways victimized by co-defendant Friedman," Haas stated at the time. He wrote that Dumitru was "kept in the dark with respect to the vast majority of codefendant Freidman's business dealings and was without knowledge of his alleged criminality."
