As a party, it is time to push back. Yesterday's NBC ambush by the (in my view) no-so-innocent Craig Melvin, followed by the Oscar worthy performance by Our Lady of Over Acted Perpetual Outrage, the former public adulterer Mika was not happenstance. It is part of a decades long pattern of attacks on the Clintons.
For this go-round the American powers that be are joining the St. Petersburg Army (wittingly or otherwise) to make them symbols of the Democrats running to take back our government. In doing so, they're attempting to deflect from the candidates and put focus on the villains they worked so long and hard to create.
DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN.
And yet, even here on DU, the Clinton Hate is strong. That is what they want. Discord within our party strengthens to impact of this latest ClintonBomb among the larger public.
Let's face a basic fact. As was said centuries ago at the very founding of our country by a most famous founding father "we must all hang together or most assuredly we will all hang separately" is as true today as when Franklin said it in 1776.
The Clintons are ours.
Own it. Defend it.

Look at the clowns the gop elected to the highest office in the world - Dubya and now tRump. They do not have any decent, honest, smart, CLASSY people on their side. All are beholden to Russia and other foreign money. The RNC is paying legal bills for Hope Hicks and tRump Jr. among others. Covering their own traitors to this country. Hillary should sue tRump for slander. How is she crooked? The Clintons have been investigated for YEARS, with no results that warrant her being called the names tRump spews on her. She sat for 11 hours being interviewed by the clowns in DC. tRump wants a list of questions from Mueller, before he would even agree to defend himself. Scared to face the charges that can be PROVEN. 1. "Let's start doing fact checking, to inform the public!"
2. Runs stories. "Gee, Democrats aren't perfect, but Republicans are corrupt as all get out."
3. "Hey, people are saying that we're biased against Republicans for printing all the true things about them."
4. "Our advertisers say we might lose market share. So let's find a way to bash Democrats too."
Pretty soon you have, "In the news thegopjuststartedWW3andnowcitiesareallradioactivewastelands, but GET THIS - Hillary might have JAYWALKED back in 1978!!!!!1!!! See? Both sides are bad!"

(25,690 posts)it was that the Democratic Party lost because they are a party of liberal elites who spend their time raising money from the wealthy and powerful instead of talking to working people.
The problem here is that it isn't true. Facts are facts. In the last election, people with the least amount of money voted for the Democrat. People with the most money voted for Trump.
Many people think that calling Democrats names and accusing them of not doing their jobs only helps Trump or encourages "both sides are the same, why vote?" Why is that so difficult to understand? All he has to do is leave out the insults to Democrats and attack Trump. It's simple.
The constant insults would make sense if he's running for president as a third party candidate, however, setting himself up as the only one who can beat Trump. After Jane Sanders' comment about third parties the other day, this makes people very nervous. Republicans will not vote for someone they think will raise their taxes. They were convinced Obama raised their taxes and slapped draconian regulations on small business when he did no such thing. They are not reasonable. This is not a good plan to beat the Republicans.

InAbLuEsTaTe
(24,123 posts)is not being friendly to Democrats? That's news to me. The truth is, Bernie is the BEST friend Democrats could have... he not only supports them with his Senate vote, but, he's also "moving the needle" in terms of setting a progressive agenda for this country that will win Democrats the White House in 2020, regardless of whether Bernie or some other candidate wins the Democratic nomination for President.
murielm99
(30,777 posts)He took most of his ideas from others. There are DU members who still come here and post stories about "his" bills that were written and put forward by others.
How will he run in 2020 wen we have not seen his taxes? What is he hiding? Again, this OP was not about Bernie. Stop trying to hijack.
InAbLuEsTaTe
(24,123 posts)I didn't say a word about Bernie's bills... though, since you brought up the subject, there is little doubt that Bernie's going about the country, speaking passionately to large audiences, to change hearts and minds on progressive issues Bernie deeply cares about, so that legislative bills can go forward with greater support and likelihood of passage, is far more important and valuable to the cause.
As for taxes, IF Bernie decides to run again for President in 2020 - after he finishes focusing like a laser beam on the 2018 mid-terms and getting as many progressive Democrats elected as possible, so as to take over both houses of Congress - I expect him to disclose his tax returns, at least 5 years worth. So, why would you think Bernie is hiding something? If Bernie refused to disclose private speeches given to Wall Street banks, after criticizing them the way he has, THEN you might have something.

(1,402 posts)Bill Clinton was a great President!! We all got along better financially till the RW started their tricks. Hillary would have been a great President, too. Financially I and my friends were a lot better off under Clinton. I'll always believe the RW knew he had a weakness and that the whole Monica thing was a setup. RW cannot stand anyone that fights for and hears the common people in our country. It doesn't matter how brilliant anyone is (i.e. President Obama) they will still do everything in their power to take them down. The RW has been taken over by megalomaniacs and they could care less about the rest of us. This is their ploy, if someone is too good, too accomplished, too brilliant, too capable, the RW will take them down.

(332 posts).... It is however, a backhanded acknowledgement that Bill Clinton did in fact change some of the core beliefs of the Party.
... It is that discussion that needs to happen (instead of howling at the Russian moon)!

(988 posts)The main stream media like CNN and MSNBC.. have to cover the things Fox News is covering or they feel they will get outscooped.
So Fox News comes up with some FAKE garbage and CNN, MSNBC, etc have to jump in and cover it until it is revealed the entire thing is garbage but that doesnt come out.. they just move on because they were duped again.

(4,407 posts)The Clintons are about the legacy not the future. I'm worried about our future, and would rather not get into the arguments that the Deplorables WANT to get in to.

(2,670 posts)The Clintons are the problem with the Party, not the solution. Millions of lifelong Democrats agree with me. That's why Hillary failed twice to achieve her highest ambition. I further believe it is wrong to equate opposition to the Clintons with hate. I don't hate them. I hate the corporations they align themselves with. Big difference.

Hillary got jobbed, but she ain't running anymore. Who cares if the GOP wants to go after her and Bill.
Democrats need to look forward to 2020 and not waste energy refighting 2016.
As Democrats, we need to keep the focus on the candidates and not fall into the trap of joining the debate
about "the Clintons did this or that"
Don't fall for it.

(37,648 posts)That's why he's in the news, mainly. Really bad timing to release a book in the midst of a "me, too" movement.
I had no problem with what Clinton said about (the you know who affair). A personal apology is unnecessary. I'm not really in favor of all these personal apologies, although I suppose it's a nice thing to do (if it really is personal, on the phone, and not on twitter).
