(6,809 posts)Katy Tur; Craig Melvin; Andrea Mitchell; Hallie Jackson; Chuck Todd; Chris Jansing; Alex Witt; Casey Hunt; Chris Matthews - you will be fine. Some reporters and/pundits to avoid: Christen Welker; Kelly ODonnell; Ruth Marcus; Susan Page. Watch: Ari Velshi; Stephanie Ruhle; Ari Melber; Nicole Wallace; Chris Hayes; Rachel Maddow; Lawrence ODonnell; and, sometimes Brian Williams. Apologies if I mangled any names.

(32,791 posts)I'm actually OK with Chuck Todd, Craig Melvin, and once in a while Katy Tur and Andrea Mitchell.
For the life of me I can't figure out how Joe Scarborough gets a 3 hour morning show - even one hour of that guy is too much! I DVR Rachel Maddow at night and watch her in the morning, so I don't have to watch Morning Joe. I think I'll start doing the same thing with Lawrence O'Donnell too.

(10,177 posts)I have a lot of trouble with Brian Williams, who I used to really like years ago. So if your sometimes for him are seldom, the I agree 100% with your list.
Edited to add one of my favorites that I forgot too: Joy Reid!

(47,544 posts)MSNBC in general is considered liberal - the counter to Fox.
Thus, if people on a liberal message board do not trust them, this means that they are doing that they are doing something right.
That one should not expect them to automatically express a liberal idea.
I will, however, put Matthews in the don't watch column.

(515 posts)rifle off many liberal hosts and pundits that appear constantly on MSNBC...it's never enough. So we hear on the right to not trust the media and then it's all over a liberal message board too. Not from me though. Oh hell no. Watching Ari Melber right now....wonder where he falls on the list.

(15,810 posts)She sure as hell earned her job after weathering Trump's repeated verbal assaults against her during the campaign. More than once he implied that it would be okay with him if his crowd were to turn violent toward her, pointing at her and calling her out by name. She hung in there. And, yes, at one point he put his hands on her and she rebuffed him. Anyone who can endure that deserves, at the very least, some measure of respect.

(38,958 posts)Avoiding cable noise entirely. I find my life much better without it.
I went down to basic cable because I decided the very high bill wasn't worth it. Sure, I missed it in the beginning, but I sure didn't miss walking in the door to find my husband watching FNC. Sadly, he has found somewhere else to watch or listen to it, and he's completely immersed in the cult.

(6,551 posts)And she earns bonus points for all the heck she took on the road with the Trump a campaign for over a year.

(58,785 posts)paid off huge. Btw, from what I'm seeing it turns out she's not very good if she doesn't have a script to lean on. And some other, unquestionably liberal hosts clearly don't like her for some reason and have a little thing going to show it off. Imo, she also compares poorly with Nicole Wallace just an hour later.
I wouldn't have a problem with her, though, if it weren't for the Andrew Mitchell level negativism of the coverage Tur's directed at Hillary. Sure, it's required for those coveted entry-level day slots at MSNBC, but she laid it on so thick when I saw her that I wondered if she was auditioning to be Andrea's replacement some day.
I didn't see what the OP's complaining about, but this election MSNBC (and CNN) is unquestionably spinning their presentations to defeat Democrats and elect Republicans again, so no surprise.
Tuesday was a great day for us and a very bad one for Republicans, but you wouldn't know it by them.

(6,551 posts)You've been watching more than I have. Not sure I understand what is going on about Hillary. What are you seeing about Tur and Hillary?
You bet, Nicole Wallace is doing a fine job. She learned quickly the do's and don't's of anchoring a panel discussion.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)I just wonder if she's going to be around long enough to get better. I have no idea why she's being given a hard time by a couple anchors, but she always comes off on the short end. It's obviously her fault sometimes. I've seen her provoke it a number of times (after the first painful interchange I tuned in when I remembered just to see if it'd be repeated. It was.). This is in her normal time slot, but she handed off to Rachel at 8:30 once and out of nowhere said she (Tur) would have a hard time taking Rachel down. (What??) Rachel handled it with a smooth, smiling professionalism that treated it as a bland pleasantry, followed by her usual friendly good night.
Tur was not called on to comment on Hillary during the campaign, and I've only heard her maybe 3 times since she's had her own show. But I was watching to see how she would handle it, because overtly badmouthing Hillary is a requirement for most regular daytime cable gigs, and also, less obviously but very consistently, undermining Democrats.
Btw, back in the days when I watched more daytime cable, for some while Wallace's favorite line when Comey's role in the throwing of the election was brought up was a cutely dismissive, "Oh, was Comey being meeen to poor Hillary?" With her signature cheerleadery Wallace smile and laugh of course. It's not that Tur's dishonesty on demand is so much more dishonest, she's just more aggressive in her manner and wields the knives without the cover of Wallace's feminine charm.

(32,791 posts)... and I'm wondering if maybe other people do too. I read her book last winter and I learned what she went through with Trump, so maybe I'm giving her a pass now. I do watch Katy occasionally but I don't make a point of turning the TV on just to listen to her. As for Nicole Wallace, yes Katy does compare poorly as most of them do. Nicole rocks!
The reporters and pundits all want to talk about the "horse race" of politics and that's ALL they want to talk about. Even when the issues are extremely important and staring them in the face, they ignore the issues. Only a few of the very best will even go there - Rachel, Lawrence, Joy and maybe Chris Wallace.

someone posted critical words of someone on cable. Earlier it was Jeffrey Toobin who was accused of carrying water for Trump. Just minutes before I saw him attacking Trump for being a racist.
I saw Katy Tur for a couple of minutes today and she was attacking the republicans for wanting to dilute the ACA and take away protections for preexisting conditions.
I must be watching tv in another universe.

(14,575 posts)She isn't a major liberal flag waver, but I have watched her a bit, and she grinds at R dipshittery pretty consistently. Now and again she does the obligatory going after a D needlessly because its just what the average cable person does because Rs are so horrible they feel obligated to beat up on Ds at times.
But, in the time I have watched her she takes digs at right wing jackassery about 1/3 of the time, digs at Ds 1/6 of the time and plays it mostly straight (meaning it isn't good for the Rs because they are wrong 99% of the time) the other 50% of the time.
She is very casual in her style, I don't mind because I am guy and all, and it plays in that dull mid morning/afternoon time slot. She gets into a earlier morning or later evening spot, she has to up her game.
