(22,651 posts)Russia's geo-political aim is to weaken the West through destabilization by sowing division among the population.[11] Russian operatives used social media to exploit racial and religious divisions during the 2016 election.[12] Democrats in the House Intelligence Committee released 3500 facebook ads that were created by the Internet Research Agency, Russia specifically targeted racial tensions in America.[13]
Of the roughly 3,500 ads published this week, more than half about 1,950 made express references to race. Those accounted for 25 million ad impressions a measure of how many times the spot was pulled from a server for transmission to a device.
At least 25% of the ads centered on issues involving crime and policing, often with a racial connotation. Separate ads, launched simultaneously, would stoke suspicion about how police treat black people in one ad, while another encouraged support for pro-police groups.
Divisive racial ad buys averaged about 44 per month from 2015 through the summer of 2016 before seeing a significant increase in the run-up to Election Day. Between September and November 2016, the number of race-related spots rose to 400. An additional 900 were posted after the November election through May 2017.
Only about 100 of the ads overtly mentioned support for Donald Trump or opposition to Hillary Clinton. A few dozen referenced questions about the U.S. election process and voting integrity, while a handful mentioned other candidates like Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz or Jeb Bush.

(22,651 posts)Republican party has progressed to MAJOR attacks against our democracy, major use of foreign disinformation propaganda... they hire the best.
people better vote or this will continue to get worse not better.
There is a whole generation of people in their 20s-30s- many under educated, can't afford much more then a cell phone ,a car & rent. They're fans/groupies of a party who are experts on propaganda.

(1,117 posts)Radicalizing young (dumb) white men.
This is what we have to stop - if we don't, in 5-10 years our country will be sunk.
It's not an accident that Hitler and Mao all tried to radicalize children: Hitler Youth, etc. They are susceptible.

(16,397 posts)Some might argue he has no soul which would be tough to dispute, but as a malignant narcissist a lot of what drives his behavior is the tick tock of time racing ever forward as his life ebbs away. Hes 72 and in bad physical condition. Mortality is probably something he contemplates regularly. the concept is probably especially troubling for those who are in love with themselves.

It's a sad day to be an American with this POS as our so-called head of state. I hate all the deplorables. I just want want them all swept out of power and made to suffer for their selfishness and greed.

Or, just cut to the chase and say "You hate your predecessor."
