then is it possible to blame 'the government' when business' fail?
Seems to me an awful lot of people blame government for business failures while arrogantly refusing to acknowledge government's support of their creation and success.
Can government be responsible for one and not the other?
(a 'friend' on FB proudly denounced the notion that government had anything to do with the business he created "all by himself" a few weeks ago- Now, he just posted that unless a miracle happens in the next week or two, he will have to start laying off his crew- along with a picture of Pres. Obama with "failure" stamped across his face.)

Tax cuts for the super-rich has never created a dynamic economy anywhere in the world. Only a living wage and full employment policies including infrastructure maintenance and creation will do that.

I dont think the govt should get credit or blame one way or the other.

Taxpayers.
You stand on the shoulders of your predecessors.

The government is currently getting blamed for every thing that is wrong in peoples lives. While many of those same people owe their survival to that 'government'.
I don't think it is fair to claim the success as 'self-made' while refusing to bear the responsibility our 'self' when we don't succeed. Doesn't seem very honest or fair imo.
Seems to me that it takes the best of both and then some to succeed or fail, then some being 'luck/fortune/chance'.

(13,200 posts)businesses are started and fail at a huge rate no matter who is running the government. What matters more is getting just the right idea into operation at the right moment and then building on the success. And it's hard no matter what. If there was no government, your competitors would come by and torch your business or beat you up or even kill you to win. Think that's outrageous? Well, John D. Rockefeller sent thugs to do just that when his competitors wouldn't sell. I am sure that others can provide many more examples of this type of predatory capitalism. It is only held in check by government.

(53,061 posts)That is why Somalia, without a functioning government, is such a rich country
And why Switzerland, that has more regulations per citizen than any country on earth, is so poor;
The country of Switzerland spends over 11 percent of its Gross Domestic Product on universal health coverage for its citizens. This is a very high expenditure per capita, but gives its residents a high healthy life expectancy of age 71 for men and age 75 for women. Switzerlands physician density is about 3.61 per 1,000 residents. Switzerland also has a high level of air pollution. There are many gardens and parks located in Zurich for citizens to walk and bike in. Most of the people of Zurich enjoy an active lifestyle and sports are an integral part of Swiss culture. The abundance of sporting facilities make Zurich a gathering place for sport lovers in Switzerland. Several international sport federations make their home in Zurich.
