"We are witnessing a seismic shift in world politics"

Colin Kahl @ColinKahl 4h4 hours ago
The German foreign minister identifies three illiberal great powers that challenge international order: Russia, China,...and Trump’s America.

Marcel Dirsus @marceldirsus
This is part of a speech given by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas today. We are witnessing a seismic shift in world politics. https://t.co/MftjkROJpJ

Not even if he's impeached and imprisoned and we get a new Democratic president and Congress.

America has proven that it can't be trusted.
Who's to say that we won't elect another Trump in the future?
A new administration might try to reinstate the values that have defined us for the past 80 years but there's no guarantee that a new evil dictator will grab power someday and yank our foundations out from under us again.
Also conservative Americans, having tasted the depravity of Trump and finding it delectable, will yearn to taste it again so they will be actively searching for more Trumpian candidates.

The US will never again regain it's old position as democratic world leader.
We will still be an economic power that has to be dealt with but in a more distant manner.
We have shown that we can become evil, selfish and destructive to allies that trusted us.
We have even demonstrated a disregard for human rights in two separate administrations so have trashed one of the cornerstones of our culture.

America has been very wasteful of natural resources in the past so maybe that will be forced to change.
Not being the leader could give us more freedom in a way so maybe it's for the best.
Whether it is or not the post WWII world order has died and a new world order is about to begin and it probably won't rotate around us anymore.
Just gots to go with the flow whatever it is.

That's my prediction at least.

now it seems like years ago. I asked, "How long it would take the country to recover after he is out of office?". The replies were similar to what I heard from my friends and family which raged from a few years under Dem control to 20 years if ever. I am starting to believe it will be the 20+ year or never answer. I don't have too much time left and am very, very grateful for this every single day.

The mere fact that someone like trump could be president indicates that our system of government, as inspired as it may have been, has fatal flaws. Unless something like a parliamentary system is adopted (it never will be,) we've pretty much had it as a country with a properly-functioning government.

Last weekend and Monday were low points for me. But we must have hope. There are more people who oppose Trump than support him. We have to be smart about where we consume our news, support one another, be on the lookout for dirty tricks online and in the world of politics and work like heck to succeed in November.

otherwise it would be too depressing. I can't handle wallowing in bad news.

I do limit what I read about all the inhumane stories coming down the pike.
