This is where he came on occasion to a large ranch owed by one of his friends. They would stock the lake and stream feeding the Tabernash for Eisenhower's fishing enjoyment. He instructed them to make sure that the kids around the area were given access to the property after he left to catch the trout. When he arrived or left all the residents, Dems and Repubs would be sure to be on the road to wave him hello. Yeah, times have changed. Some for the better and some not so much.

The Republicans (at least their supporters) were out trying to continue to do business with Germany during WW2 (Remember Prescott Bush and his buddies?) Republicans have backed numerous horrific right wing dictators including Pinochet in Chile, the Contras in Nicaragua, the Shah in Iran. Nixon went behind LBJ's back to sabotage peace talks with Vietnam to win the election of 68 and Reagan did the same thing to Jimmy Carter with Iran to win the election of 1980, which lead to the whole Iran/Contra scandal.

I also go back a few years and know that every administration (D/R) has taken some very horrific stances on issues internal and around the world. I can't give any party a clean bill-of-health. Republicans think that government serves only to facilitate the conduct of business and economic activity, to protect private property, and to wage war. Democrats think that government should be involved in promoting the general welfare and protecting the most vulnerable citizens, while working to ensure economic prosperity and opportunity.
