I told everyone here for months Trump is going down and going down hard.

Look at what is happening. Trump is screwed.

You have the mueller investigation. Manafort and Cohen are fucked. They may turn. We are talking treason when it comes to Trump and his people. They supported an attack on America by Russia. You are a fucking traitor when you do that.

My home State of New York just filed a lawsuit against Trump and his family. Way to go New York. Crooked charity.

There are two grand juries investigated Trump.

Trump is being investigated for breaking the Emollients Claus of the constitution.

Stormy Daniels trial. Trump may have committed some serious crimes

The Summer trial. Same as above.

More to come, count on it.

Trump destroyed himself and his family when he made the dumb decision to run for president.

I am not too worried about how his supporters will react if/when he goes down. We still have a Blue Wave going on and people still hate Trump and everything that he stands for. I say, "good" when the worst candidate is put forth by the republicons. I know they cringe when they see who wins these elections too. Remember that most people don't vote in primaries. It is the base, and in IQ45's case the base is nasty, racist and stupid.

Let them make noise and make asses out of themselves. Hopefully we will get it on video and use it for our benefit

Pretty much every single day here on DU there are posts gleefully claiming Trump will be out of office real soon. There used to be daily posts about Mueller being fired. At least those have gone away.

The Republican leadership is firmly committed to retaining power, which is why they occasionally say something mild to indicate they're not 100% pleased with Trump, but are clearly doing nothing to remove him from office. And they won't. If somehow Trump is indicted for something (which I am daily more skeptical that that will ever happen), they'll get the Supreme Court to say a sitting President can't be indicted or brought to trail. So nothing will happen.

Even if there really is a blue tsunami in November, I don't hold out a lot of hoping for the newly empowered Democrats to do much either.

I hope I'm wrong, but the truth is we're stuck with Trump until at least January 21, 2021.

Yeah. Didn't happen. Not going to happen.

The best any of us can hope for is Trump resigns before anything happens. And then we get President Pence and we'll hear more of the same types let us know that the adults are back in charge and that they look forward to negotiating in good faith and working with their friends across the aisle as though none of this happens. And that is the BEST CASE scenario.

But rest assured neither Trump nor anyone is his family is "going down" or "going away" or any of it.

Clearly, he's broken lots and lots of laws, and also clearly both Mueller and New York courts are closing in. When Manafort and Cohen talk, there'll be sufficient evidence to charge him with obstruction of justice and (I would guess) money laundering at least.

What I'm wondering is what happens then? Will the Republicans finally turn on him and throw him out of office? They show no indication so far they have the decency to do that.

So what happens when the President of the United States is charged with crimes?

First Mueller has to publish the charges and present evidence.
There will be a long debate in the House if impeachment is called for and vote to file articles of impeachment. That will happen only if the blue wave flips the House.

Senate is less likely to flip in 2018.
Then Senate has to debate and vote to remove Rump.
Just do not see all this happening before election of 2020.
Why? Because the republican congress critters are afraid of being primaried by Trumpkins. Look at what happened in Virginia on Tuesday. Republicans won't turn on Rump until
after the election of 2020 November is out of the way.

Quickly scanning the numbers, only in my district can I compare the two sides directly; we hold a 12,000 voter advantage if you measure enthusiasm by primary turnout. Also here in the 10th, the brazenly pro-Turd Shit Hill lost to Comstock by a wide margin.

First he has the most expansive public platform anyone in history has ever had to try and turn public opinion.
As long as he has wiggling room he will use this to push tried and true legal obfuscation tactics.

But if he finds himself cornered he will do anything, no matter how destructive, to get himself out.
This could be ordering a war or maybe even inventing an excuse to declare martial law.
( I know this is classic, tin foil hat, conspiracy thinking but with Trump the totally unthinkable is in the realm of possibility.)

It's not going to be pretty because he will never accept American law as the final arbiter of his future.

Everyone was saying he wouldn't last 6 weeks, 100 days, 6 months....etc etc etc

It has been 18 months.

Sorry, but I see no end in the near (foreseeable) future.

since November of 2016. At least one other member of DU is/was doing the same thing. As you said, I figured dRump would last a few months, six months tops. It's been 19 months of his miserable occupation of our house and I don't see an end either. I am learning that for every surprisingly stupid thing he says or does, it is surprisingly and stupidly accepted by his base and their GOP herders.

While not to a Gandalf state yet, it continues to grow: long, gray, turning white, for as long as it takes.

Trump is continually breaking the Emoluments Clause by raking in money from foreign governments.

He may convince three more states to ratify a call for a Constitutional Convention. They have an un-quenchable desire for wealth and power. If they CAN seize it....THEY WILL!

At that point, there are no guarantees. 250 years of democracy could be made history.

What are the alternatives?

Dictatorship?

Monarchy?

Police State for our own safety?

Wake up.

We MUST take back the state legislatures NOW!

Two sinister words...

National Security

Do you really think they will arrest/impeach/remove a sitting president? Really?

What will happen to the stock market?

What happens when the partisan nut jobs get violent over his removal?

Etc, etc.

Again, we are still waiting for files to be released on the JFK assassination - 50+ years ago - because of 'national security' concerns...

There is no possible way it will happen because too many wealthy people will lose their shit - hence, let the asshole serve out his term and go away because.."national security"...

The only way is to vote the bastards out. Every one of the GOP fascists - everyone.

Make it so lopsided they cannot steal it.

Only way...

If anything, his power has grown in the last few months.

Children are being ripped from the arms of mothers. Racism is more overt than ever. His supporters are clamoring for a Nobel Peace Price like Obama got. He's alienating our allies even more than before. Rules are being abolished. Huge tax cuts for billionaires & corporations were passed.

If a report is returned that recommends indictment, I fear that no one will act on it, since it will be a "witch hunt" report, and the rest of the politicians will be too afraid.

But I am hopeful, nonetheless.

I agree with everything you wrote.

When / if it comes time for Ryan and McConnell to act, I don't care what the charges are, what the verdicts are, how many indictments there are.

If it's up to them, they will do nothing.

Trump and his wrecking crew aren’t going anywhere. If the letter of the law still had any value, they’d be in prison right now.

But the old paradigms are just that— old and out of date. Apparently, the law now takes a back seat to being a “loyal party member,” just as it was last century for a couple of European dudes who also fancied themselves “stable geniuses.”

but the likelihood of trump getting reelected is growing everyday. No president has ever had supporters like trump supporters. They are tribal and pledge absolute loyalty to trump no matter what. Many will kill for trump.

98. You're a step behind. You speak of our justice-will-not-fail democratic world as if it still exists.

Sure, it still exists for Democrats and progressives -- but that's our memories talking. #45 and his supportive Republican Party have created their own reality, as most cults do. They believe that they're the victims, and also above the law.

And most of the Republican Party are backing Trump. His supporters don't care about Russia. They don't care that he has likely broken multiple laws in several U.S. states over time. They love his crassness and intemperate bullshit, just for the very effect it has on reasonable people. They have the Supreme Court advantage. They hold all branches of government. Clearly, they're not interested in playing fair. I fear that the partisan divide is so deep that #45 will still be standing after this, I fear.

It appears now that there is a sobering number of American citizens who would vote for an out-an-out fascist. Which is why it is CRUCIAL to vote Democratic in November.
