D.C.'s jail is in deplorable condition. But Manafort's tough, right?

https://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/news/article/20829786/dc-jails-deplorable-condition-is-a-metaphor-for-the-citys-criminal-justice-system

A year after the Washington Lawyers’ Committee released a blistering report on the state of D.C.’s largest jail, little has changed at the 40-year-old facility. The findings, which included rat infestations, sewage leaks, and defective temperature controls, inspired local lawyers and prisoner rights advocates to demand immediate intervention by city government.

But the building has continued to decay and the city has taken little to no action. The failing ventilation system has left prisoners baking in humid, 87-degree cells—an environment that potentially contributed to last month’s death of inmate Lester Irby. WLC staff say they are receiving daily calls from inmates reporting difficult conditions.

“What’s changed is that the jail is one year older. That’s about it,” says WLC attorney Deborah Golden.

He’s a Very Important Prisoner.

Paul Manafort, one-time head of President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, spent his first night in a federal prison in Virginia on Friday — where his location was listed as “VIP.”

Manafort is being housed at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Virginia, about 90 miles south of Washington DC.

Thinking about it, and VIP not apropos unless for security, imo, we the people should NOT be pleased that 'we' house prisoners in awful/inhuman places. That was one of the first issues I addressed, in my first job after college/before law school. I like the looks of this place in VA, it civilized.

I am sure Father's Day will be fun, all the rats can play together with the biggest, newest rat.

I'd make sure that Mr. Manafort was taken care of. It may not be fair to afford him extra protection and special treatment, but if anything were to happen to Manafort while in custody, the political repercussions from the right might be fatal to the investigation.

Crowded conditions where fights broke out over the most minor of things. Shitters and pissers backing up and over flowing. Freezing in winter and laying in your rack at night during hot summer days soaked in sweat. Unable to take showers or wear clean clothes for up to two or more weeks at a time

15. John Dean thinks Manafort could try to kill himself

Is it so bad that Manafort may try to kill himself rather than be forced to cooperate or die in jail? John Dean, former White House Counsel for Richard Nixon, said so on CNN Friday night.

During a low period Manafort had previously suggested to his daughter that he might kill himself, Dean noted.

“They also know this man once told his daughter he was suicidal. He threatened to take his life. I assume they’re on watch for that as well,” he said.

Many people want him dead. I'm sure he will be watched very closely.
