Florida DUers

As an ex Floridian I am getting a little uncomfortable with the Nelson-Scott race. I assumed since Scott barely beat relatively weak candidates like Alex Sink and Charlie Crist in election years that favored Republicans he would easily lose to a popular Democrat in a year that favors them. Yet the polls are close.

What's up ?

Nelson needs to tie Scott to Trump, especially among Hispanics, and pound him the fact Scott opposed Medicaid expansion.

Nelson is getting donations but not the tens of millions Scott has to spend.

And for some reason the Democrats are not using the history of Scott's Medicare/Medicaid fraud against him - yet again.

Some of these republican workers are pretending not to be republicans. They're saying "well we are just independents".

Democrats here are very weak voters. Without someone like Barack Obama on the ballot, Dems might not show up.

Disheartening to say the least.

The many Democratic clubs that have cropped up in my red county gives me a lot of hope. We are fired up!

The truth is coming out about his big screwup (or plan) about Keys debris removal.. Companies already in the pipeline to remove junk were superseded by Scott's boys who charged THREE TIMES what the others contractors were charging..
Of course he is denying it.
The person who "ok'd" the switch said he did not do it, it was one of Scott's boys in the DOT who did. Scott says his plan saved Florida $$$... Lie.. Remove a stove/refrigerator by a pre determined contractor for $90 but Scotts boys charge $850... WTF??? Scott and friends are caught and lying thru their teeth to bury it before the election.. I hope Nelson uses it against him.. He played the same game when he got caught in the HCA scandal. Maybe him and tRump use the same play book...

One of the ads accused Nelson of getting $4 million dollars over his Senate career. That pretty much amounts to his salary over his years in Senate. Pretty laughable.

That said hopefully Nelson can hit back harder.

He has done well here but who knows in this crazy country what will happen. He is a decent man. I don't know if decency can survive in the Trump years.

But Nelson has been all over the state campaigning. Plus, there will be a good Gov race and many, many Democrats on ballots.

Scott is gaining some ground because of his foul ads but other than that, I don't think people are paying much attention yet. It's hot, it's summer, it's the World Cup.

My completely unscientific opinion is that Scott started his smear ads too soon.

And honestly? If Democrats and liberal/moderate Indy's don't vote in this election, this state deserves what it gets. The idea that people need to be "motivated" to vote, after what Rs have done here is ludicrous.

He beat Nelson to the punch on Irma and Pulse and everything else. Public relation coup. Scott seemed to understand the necessity of it, and that running on his prior record would lead to defeat.

Granted, as sitting governor he had huge advantage. Naturally the media will turn to him first. Nelson was called on for a supplemental opinion two hours later.

I still have no idea why we don't prioritize governorships enough, given realities like that.

If Rick Scott owned his approval ratings of 2010 and 2014 he would lose handily to Nelson. Now the tilt of the nation is reversed from those years, but likewise Scott's popularity is vastly different. It may not show up fully in approval polling but you can certainly feel it here on the ground in Miami. These days every time I hear someone talking about Scott in public it is positive.
