(6,918 posts)I agree. Everyone wants it to be true, but bouncing the rumor around before validating it is pure speculation. It's also an example how the right-wing echo chamber can seize a story---the more hyperbolic the better---and turn it into a virtual fact in the minds of their gullible base.
But still, we can all dream.

<snip>
A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Theres two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump, McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthys assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

It's absolutely amazing how arrogantly sloppy so many of these Trump-connected criminals are, but ex- prosecutors say they see it's actually normal among criminals and they see it all the time.

(7,725 posts)This seems like it's moving at a glacial pace and is going to go on for a long time. Now we can watch the spectacle of Manaforts trials and conveniently forget 'Ivankar', don jr., Pence and dt himself. Probably Melania has been riding dirty as well. Eric? Gods only knows. He seems to be close to half way through his admin I was sure wouldn't last 6 months. How wrong I was.

(3,680 posts)I will be good. I'll go to church every day. I'll start tithing, even.
If they round up Nunes Ryan and McConnell I will turn over a new leaf and stop trash talking Republicans.
What am I saying, I will NEVER stop trash talking them.
But otherwise I'll be very very good.
The reason I think it is unlikely this will happen is, Ryan and McConnell both fairly recently said they stand behind Mueller. They wouldn't say that if they thought there was even the tiniest chance they were included in the investigation.
But it sure is nice to dream.
duforsure
(11,885 posts)Mitch is now wanting it ended too. That's going to make it worse for Mitch showing he is working with them to obstruct justice because he knows he's closing in fast on him, but it won't matter, he'll be exposed along with Nunes and many others . The GOP in Congress are too late to stop it, and they're in a world of trouble with the crime family i the white House.

(14,077 posts)If it's true and the republicans in congress are aware of it, they'd tell Trump to fire Mueller and they would support his action. Who could stop it?

(7,506 posts)maybe here maybe not. That subpoenas indicated Mueller was going after members of congress but names and titles were redacted on the copies that were seen. We know Turtle was in Trump tower the same day Vekselberg was. I believe Avenatti released that. Maybe Vekselberg who I believe has been interviewed twice ratted out the rat.

(66 posts)Is for these 3 to go down in this order in spectacular fashion. Nunes first in some kind of perp walk would make my year. Ryan because he has used his boyish personna to perpetrate his ugly Ayn Rand dream. McConnell would be quite special given his smug defiance and longevity.
Please let this happen!

(5,586 posts)Mueller's mandate doesn't extend that far. And unless they're all on tape raping a 9 year old, our larger population would never believe that it isn't politically motivated.
Trump would pardon everyone, there'd be a special council investigating Mueller, and we'd lose our best chance to get rid of Trump.

(22,976 posts)And rumors about TrumpCos demise are about as effective as playing that LP in hopes of turning aside this fascist coup.
Facts are what's needed, and even that is difficult, in that Republicans arent much interested in facts or the very reality in which they exist.
