Trump Effect: New Kingwood, TX business model: Lawn Care by 'White People' U.S. Citizens (VIDEO)

Last edited Sat Jun 16, 2018, 06:35 PM - Edit history (1)

The advertising on this lawn care business truck would likely be more shocking if we were not living in this new political landscape. Unfortunately, we are living through the Trump Effect in all corners of this country as what would generally be considered unacceptable becomes the norm.

I have an interesting take on this guy. He is not your run of the mill racist or xenophobe.

seeing a white Guy mowing lawns with 110 degree heat and mega humidity. Yes there are a few Lawn Guys who are Whites that have been in the Business for years, but, they have a least one Hispanic worker working with them.

One of my friends who is 57 years old runs his own landscaping company. He usually gets out to work early in the morning and stops at 2 or 3 in the afternoon so he might avoid the worst conditions, but he does work hard for his income. He doesn't have any employees, but his wife used to help out until she had a couple of heart attacks. He was upset about having to purchase ACA insurance and I suspect that they voted for Trump because they are the type that would fall for the Trump propaganda.

I doubt that either of them will live more than another ten years. They are both heavy smokers (1.5 to 2 packs a day) and the wife is morbidly obese.

Heard this story from our Lawn Person, what a bitcher and complainer. Needless to say,we now have a Hispanic fellow who said, the ACA was the best thing going for him and his family. Funny how different people are.

Some appear to be one man operations. I know a few teachers that do lawncare during summers and on the weekend during the fall (and winter for customers that have them seed and maintain winter grass). But generally, most of the lawn care seem to be Blacks running one man to crew operations, I occasionally see a White guy doing public road contracts, but he has Hispanic or Blacks with him. I never see young Whites out doing the work. In Florida during the summer, just digging up four digs with a shovel is enough to drench a person in sweat.

Tree trimming was very competitive in FL. Workers would just knock on your door and offer to trim your palm trees. Washingtonians are pretty high. One time a group of African American guys offered do trim my Washingtonians. I said Yeah. About two minutes later a white group came by. I told them they were a bit too late. They said, oh, you went with the brothers.

He's getting $37 and paying two workers $4 each for a nice profit of $29.

...where we are (outside the city limits), every lawn service we have seen is Hispanic. We pay them top dollar for lawn service although we are on fixed income and can no longer tend the yard ourselves. The couple who lives behind us is from Puerto Rico.

those looking for bigotry leaped on this one, of course, but kinda forgetting them is an unwarranted assumption.

Approximately a quarter of all Texans are U.S. citizens of minority background, and a fair number work in landscaping/property maintenance.
