over border separations

The Trump administration struggled on Monday to defend its policy of separating parents from their sons and daughters at the southern US border amid growing national outrage and the release of a shocking recording of sobbing children.
As the White House scrambled to respond to the deepening political crisis, the homeland security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, flew from New Orleans to Washington to face a barrage of questions from reporters, even as Democrats demanded her resignation and the outcry reached a critical mass.
Nielsen claimed that America was a country of compassion and heart but was unable to square the circle regarding whether the separations were a vindication of the administrations zero tolerance policy towards illegal immigration or an unintended consequence of a law made by the US Congress.
During the West Wing briefing, she did not hear or ignored a reporter at the back of the room who played secretly recorded audio, first obtained by ProPublica, in which several Central American children, separated from their parents last week, can be heard crying for their Mami! and Papa!

(14,492 posts)I looked into the incidence of psychopathy in the human species. According to Wikipedia, psychiatrists estimate around 1% of typical populations, or over 3 million psychopaths in the U.S.A.
That incidence is much higher in the business world, estimated at around 3-4% for executives. Further, a study by Nathan Brooks from Bond University found that around one in five corporate bosses display clinically significant psychopathic traits - a proportion similar to that among prisoners. (my guess is that GOP politicians score even higher)
I think every damn person that works for tRump is a member of that club....
Their behavior fits the description quite well.

(9,287 posts)The Evil Seekers - Poem by Anne Sexton
but one must learn about evil,
learn what is subhuman,
learn how the blood pops out like a scream,
one must see the night
before one can realize the day,
One must be a prisoner just once to hear
the lock twist into his gut.
After all that
one is free to grasp at the trees, the stones,
the sky, the birds that make sense out of air.
But even in a telephone booth
evil can seep out of the receiver
and we must cover it with a mattress,
and then tear it from its roots
and bury it,
bury it.

(3,243 posts)and she suddenly had to leave when asked if this policy was being used as a deterrent. How convenient she had to go without answering that question. The administration has claimed it to be a deterrent. Disgusting!
