my mouth was working kind of loopey and I said "you really are going to make me say his name? You want my BP to go to 300?" But, I had to answer as they were waiting. I said "you must come up with a better question".

My mom grew up in the Mid-South, and was quizzed by docs during an office visit during the Bush the Lesser years... When they asked her who was POTUS, she said "The Little Banty Rooster." My sister laughed and said "She means Bush. She knows who the POTUS is." She would not say his name!

(180 posts)I had open heart surgery Tuesday for aortic valve replacement. Just after they pulled the airway, some fool asked the same question: "Who is the president."
They said they knew I was actually conscious when they saw the eye-focus recognition, and a quiet moan of, "Nooooo!"

(9,893 posts)in a situation where we routinely ask this question to see if a person is oriented. Every time we ask it the staff looks at each other and grimaces. We've gotten some pretty good responses from patients. If they know it we generally ask who the last President was and most of them brighten up considerably.
